I thought I saw it somewhere that sky would close my pure telecom account once I switched to sky broadband but I'm still paying pure telecom each month. Do I need to sort this myself?

Sky can only take over and switch an account from another openreach isp. If not through openreach you will need to contact the old isp as well to cancel with them

Are you in ireland. This is mainly a uk forum and the mechanism for switching between irish isp's doesn't come up frequently

So I'm speaking with pure telecom who says all services are still with them and that I need to talk to my new provider about it

Quite possibly: the Ofcom one-touch switching scheme by definition only applies to UKGB&NI because they have no jurisdiction in RoI.
