Disconnection to cabinet in street takes down internal LAN
“When using a latest Sky provided router, when the router looses direct connection to the internet, ie the cabinet in the street, why does it also take down my internal wired LAN until the router reconnects back to the internet / cabinet taking sometimes 5 minutes”
I noticed the lack of settings in the Sky router networking pages (such as DNS), but seriously, why is it taking down my wired 1gb connection to my PC and NAS drive when the darn internet decides to take a pop.
The only thing I have set up on the Sky router is a local DHCP server, 192.168.1.2 - 250 and a few static ips for wired devices.

Re: Disconnection to cabinet in street takes down internal LAN
It shouldn't do that unless the router itself is rebooting by itself which is a fault if it occurs regularly.

Re: Disconnection to cabinet in street takes down internal LAN
Putting a cheap unmanaged gigabit ethernet switch in between the Hub and the client devices is a crude but simple solution.
As @mae-3 indicates, that shouldn't be happening just on a dropped WAN connection though, unless it's actually the router falling over which disconnects the WAN in the first place.

Re: Disconnection to cabinet in street takes down internal LAN
The router does not reboot, the middle light goes from green to red.
192.168.1.1 shows it is has lost internet connection and because I am on that page, the router is still alive. But about 30 seconds later, I loose physical RJ45 cable 1GB connection on PC that is wired direct to the router and its DHCP.
I am using a static ip address (configured via router)
I also have a cheapo unmanaged giga switch for other devices. Need to check if they die too as not really checked and only noticed on the PC.

Sounds like a faulty router and your NAS, etc... needs IP connectivity to work which the router isn't supplying when it fails to connect to the internet.

Re: Disconnection to cabinet in street takes down internal LAN
I am starting to lead to faulty router as it has been playing up. This is my 2nd router now showing similar problems with drops, disconnects, slow and now killing my LAN.
As said above, this should not happen but I cannot get anyone from SKY to admit this and send me a new router or just say, it is "how it works, live with it"

The alternative is to replace the Sky router with your own but you do lose the Sky Talk in the process if the reliability of the broadband is the key thing and LAN functionality then that is the way to go. Alternatively, you could change provider if you are not in a twelve-month contract, and try for a better service from a better provider.

Re: Disconnection to cabinet in street takes down internal LAN
@mae-3 - Out of contract and waiting for the FTTH provider to connect me (they are working in the area).
When that happens, I will definately replace router.
Don't use Sky Voice.

Sky's VoIP talk solution is poor anyway it doesn't even support HD Calling. 😎
