I cannot connect any device while near my router (get message password is incorrect) but if I sit by the booster I can connect fine. And then as I walk away from the booster towards the router I lose the connection again. I've tried switching off the router and resetting it. I've also tried forgetting the network on my devices and switching them off but I still get the same problem

Further investigation and information. No devices will connect while I'm in the same room as the sky q main unit (which is hardwired with Ethernet not WiFi). Have switched off the booster and it made no difference when I was in the room with the sky q. Then I sat next to the booster, which was still off, and my device connected. Somewhere I read something about the sky q interfering, so I turned the sky q off and back on again 10 seconds later.
all problem have now gone away. SO BEWARE your sky q box can somehow interfere with the nearby WiFi signal.
