Detriment to my neighbour

How is it possible me and my next door neighbour Are in identical new build homes I moved in 5 years prior to them and we're both connected to the same equipment and are now on the same contract but I'm recieving totally different speeds with myself at a 30mb lower speed. Impossible considering it's the same green box built identical terrace of homes all fibre to property

Sound like you are on full fibre  to the cabinet  then a copper  phone  line for your  cabinet  to your   property and there could  be a problem  on your  line, please refer  to the photos

i  think you need to call sky and get them to run a check on your broadband

And have you  run the service  checker on  the my sky broadband  app to see if you  have  any issues  with  your broadband  ?

Re: Detriment to my neighbour

@Pimae What is the speed package that you have, and the estimated upload/download's that you where given. Also the link to the BTW checker, just use the address side to check, and if you post up then hide any personal details. You can check both address but they should be close to the same returned values.

Re: Detriment to my neighbour

None of that estimated linespeed info was accurate to what the property is capable of that's what's gobsmacked me superfast fiblre package.

It's like it's being throttled or isn't even connected to the superfast line in the green box out on the street. It's still on the slow medium line.

That estimate innacuuracy, fully ignores the street is all the same it's only 7 homes all built same time all same equipment as said fully capable to get 72mb and I'm not anywhere near it. and yes your right on that description of the fibre type.

To be estimated 42mb when my Linespeed has hit 60odd mb to 72mb previously.

Then to say oh but we're reaching the minimum is the dumbest statement I've ever read nobody buys a Lamborghini to drive at 20mph permanently. Very frustrating to deal with office jockeys like that

Re: Detriment to my neighbour

And thankyou for responses both of you are fully appreciated, I mean the call handlers at peanet were excusing it all the time I'm fed up so I switched company after ee had it at the 72mb but went extortionate so I sacked them off.

@Pimae in practice you are stuck as there is no way for you or Sky to force Openreach to improve the speeds on your line if it exceeds the minimum. Sending data over a copper phone line is a complex business involving high frequency carriers and differences between the performance of your line against a neighbour's are not that unusual. A slightly dodgy joint can cause an issue but thst can be anywhere between the cabinet and your home.

Openreach give a guaranteed minimum speed but these days lines that do not meet those minimums are not guaranteed to be improved. Where this happens Sky offer to release you from contract but in practice that only helps if the customer has access to a different network or switches to mobile broadband. Openreach are increasingly reluctant to spend time sorting copper lines they plan to decommiission on a few years when full fibre is fully rolled out.

@Pimae Depending on the sky hub that you have you could also post up a copy off the hub stat's, can take a look at those to see how you line is doing as a JIC factor, it is always difficult, and one good thing that is available hub dependent is you can watch the packet speed info just incase you have something going on that is sharing and on all the time. Linked the get stat's if you wish to see from the Tips above.

Re: Detriment to my neighbour

I have autism so I don't do that stuff when it's easily visas on the system to see my street speeds are higher than me individually so yes it's a detriment to my neighbour I'm being treated as 2nd class tho paying for exactly the same contract it's the new sky hub sr203 and they even have the old nowtv router

Re: Detriment to my neighbour

It's absolutely irrelevant if we're paying for same contract same top speeds 1 property is getting better service than another so again I'm sitting at a detriment

@Pimae

You need to understand how UK broadband infrastructure works. Its the same everywhere, ISPs will have various speed tiers e.g. upto 40mbps, upto 80mbps etc. You pay for the speed tier you want but at the end of the day one property could achieve higher speeds than another. That is clearly outlined in your contract & in your speed estimate/guarantee. As long as Sky are providing the minimum guaranteed download speed they quoted you in the welcome email/contract then they are fulfilling their side of the deal so there is no 'detriment'

Additionally with the move to full fibre, Openreach will not be interested in looking into a minor speed discrepancy between properties, especially if your line is still performing within the guaranteed minimum.

Re: Detriment to my neighbour

@Pimae Let's just get one thing straight, the Forum is a customer helps customer with trying to advise the BEST we can so just like you customers also, if you do not like or do not want any advice regarding what is going on that is equally fine, there are NO two routers/hubs that are alike, one may perform better, and no one knows what is involved with your broadband/wireless/devices in anyway, if you happen to have a fault, bad line, anything that is throwing a spanner in the works who knows.

Re: Detriment to my neighbour

If you moved in 5 years before your neighbour then that means planning consents would probably be 4-5 years before that so maybe 8-10 years in total?

Back then there wasn't a planning requirement for new builds to get FTTP. When your neighbour's house was built there was. Simple as that.

When we were looking for a house in 2022 I saw plenty of housing developments where "phase 1" was built under prior building/planning regs and that got FTTC. Literally half way down a road (phase 2) that changed to FTTP. Note that "built" means when the foundations were laid, not when the house was finished.

There's a form on the Openreach site somewhere which is basically "my neighbour can get fibre but I can't". Complete it and they'll tell you if there's plans to infill your area with FTTP.
