Deco S7 issues with Sky broadband

Hello all,

I'm looking for some advice to ensure my Deco S7 mesh is configured correctly.

I've recently moved from Virgin to Sky full-fibre 500gb.

I previously had the Deco S7 working fine with Virgin, but I've been unable to setup the Deco with Sky without the speed dropping.

Connecting ethernet from the Sky hub to my laptop, I achieve 500gb, so I'm getting the correct speed to the hub. I was also getting about 500gb wifi when near the hub.

I've tried the following variations so far:

- Setup Deco as Router, connected via ethernet direct to the Sky hub, with Sky hub Wifi diabled.

- Setup Deco as AP, connected via ethernet direct to the Sky hub, with Sky hub Wifi enabled.

- Setup Deco as Router, connected via ethernet direct to the ONT box.

With all the above, I'm only getting about 200gb over Wifi  from the Deco.

To check whether it was an issue with the Wifi, I connected the Deco direct to the ONT box (with the Sky hub competely removed), and then connected my laptop via ethernet to the Deco, and still only achieved 200gb.

Could someone please support with what the issue may be? I would prefer to just remove the Sky hib and connect the Deco direct to the ONT, but I'm assuming I've probably not configured the Deco correctly.

Thanks in advance

@cswest Can you say when the deco was routing on the ONT what your wan was set as, and what the Ethernet connected speed test did laptop connected to the deco. Sounds like you have a vlan set on the deco!

OR Openreach or CF connected for your Fibre, and what sky Hub are you using!

Re: Deco S7 issues with Sky broadband

Hi JimM1,

Thanks a lot for the reply.

My knowledge is pretty basic on this issue so can you clarify:

- How do I check what my WAN was set at?

- How do I know if I have a vlan set on the deco? And if that's the issue?

The speed test was about 200gb connected via ethernet from laptop to Deco, when the Deco was connected to ONT or the Sky hub; I tried both variations. I didn't change any settings on the Deco when I connected to the ONT.

The Sky hub model is SR213

Re: Deco S7 issues with Sky broadband

@cswest What do you do to set the deco modes, is it all through a deco app on a mobile? You have NO need for a sky Landline phone connection if you go direct on the ONT, just wish to clear that up!

If you reset the Deco are you confident that you could get it back up working with some values given to you!

Re: Deco S7 issues with Sky broadband

@JimM1

Yes I'm doing it through the Deco app on my mobile.

Yes I'm aware about not being able to use a landline if I go straight to the ONT - that's fine with me.

I can reset the Deco and make any required changes if you could provide the required settings.

Thanks again.

@cswest sounds like an issue with your Deco unit. I use a set of 3 older Deco M4 units run in access point mode behind my Sky Max hub. This set up delivers full 500Mb/s in my main living area of my home. Pretty obviously that drops when connecting via the satellites on different floors which is to be expected.

As long as you are using a gigabit ethernet cable between the ONT and the Deco there will be no speed loss - if the cable was dodgy speeds would drop to 90Mb/s so that is unlikely to be the issue if you are seeing 200Mb/s. I would check the Deco app that you have both WiFi bands active as only using tgecw.4GHz band would possibly cause the speed issue. The setting is in More/WiFi Settings/Advanced/Band

Re: Deco S7 issues with Sky broadband

@Chrisee thanks for the reply.

Yes I am using the gigabit ethernet cable that came with the Sky Hub. I've removed that from the hub and connected to the Deco so the Deco is connected direct to the ONT.

I have both 2.4 and 5GHZ active on the app.
