Deals on Renewal ??? Why does it look like 2 tier pricing?

I've just got notified that my 18month contract is coming up for renewal. I've got Sky Stream with Ultimeate, Netflix, and Superfast Broadband. For some odd reason they are charged separately with Broadband payments being taken on a different date to SKy Stream, and it looks like the renewal is also staggered with about 7 days difference between the two.

Anyway - point of the question - I'm getting the 'renewal' email coming through telling me that I'm a VIP and there's a fabulous deal for me. At the moment I pay a total of £47.50 a month for both. when I look at the renewal options I'm being offered for a 24 month contract, the costs work out at £49 a month (but with an increase to be applied at the beginning of April).

However, when I look at the deals without signing into my account, I can get the same package for £39 a month. so I'm a bit confused as to where the VIP bit is coming in. I managed to reach the offshore customer services the oher day, and that was  bizarre conversation - but the upshot was that I should call back when the broadband is also showing as due for renewal and they will talk to me then. When I asked what the advantage of being an existing customer was and paying £47.50 for the same service that they are offering at £39, they guy got really brusque and said I should call back in 7 days.

But I still don't get why I would renew at £47.50 for a service being offered at £39.....

All major ISPs offer better deals for new customers than existing ones: it's standard practice in the industry.

So yes, it is a two-tier system, because they aren't obliged to offer parity.
