Copper line to Full Fibre changeover

I've currently have fibre to a junction box with copper then running via telegraph pole to the house, through the wall to Openreach Mk4 Master Socket 5C to which my router is plugged into alongside my landline. My question are :-

1) will the current cable from pole to house be removerd ?

2) will the current Master Socket become redundant ?

Many thanks for any replies.

Typically it's not removed, even though it will no longer be in use.  There isn't the scrap value in individual copper pairs to justify the time removal would take.

2) will the current Master Socket become redundant ?

Yes, together with any internal phone extension sockets.

To add to the above copper line was removed by the 3rd party contractor, whether thats now par for the course or not don't be surprised if the copper cable is left in place.

Re: Copper line to Full Fibre changeover

All your current internal phone wiring (including the master socket) will be redundant.

The new fibre cable will enter your property on an exterior wall and a powered modem ONT will be placed on the interior wall where the fibre enters. A new router will be connected to the ONT and thus you will need power sockets for the ONT and router.

If you are keeping an analogue landline number you can plug an analogue phone with a BT socket into the router.

Most people now use DECT wireless handsets like the 'BT Premium Phone' where the main hub plugs into the router via a BT socket.

This gives you an easy way to have multiple extensions (up to 6 handsets) in different rooms.

Re: Copper line to Full Fibre changeover

Only moving to SKY FF as the cost will be the same as I currently pay, but once my contract is up, as I also have access to Community Fibre in my road, so if I switched to them, would they also want to run another cable to the house or would they be able to use the existing Openreach connection?

Re: Copper line to Full Fibre changeover

Community Fibre is both an ISP (Internet Service Provider) and a fibre line company that owns and operates its own full fibre (FTTP) broadband network independently of Openreach.

They only use their own FTTP network (not Openreach FTTC) so yes they will want to put a fibre line in that will replace the copper line and make all existing internal copper phone wiring and sockets redundant.

You can keep your existing phone number by porting it to Community Fibre's VoIP system. The phone service uses a phone adapter (ATA box) that converts traditional phone signals for internet-based calling, and customers can use their existing analogue handsets. There is also a Community Fibre Home Phone app for iOS and Android that enables calls VoIP calls (to and from your number) from mobile devices over WiFi or mobile data:

Unlike Sky, EE, BT and Vodafone the ATA (analogue telephone adapter) is a separate box (it is not built into the router):

Community Fibre won't use an Openreach circuit: they install their own infrastructure.

Re: Copper line to Full Fibre changeover

Great! Then I'll have 3 cables from the pole to my house....

But guys, many thanks for the replies, they've been enlightening.

Neither SKY or Community Fibre have been very forthcoming with information re. their setups,  so thanks again.
