Considering switching to Sky ultrafast

Considering switching to Sky fibre, currently on Virgin 1 gig service.

I need to use my own router, so currently have my Virgin Router in modem mode.

i did briefly have a BT service, but swiftly switched back to Virgin as my home system has 100 plus connected devices, and the BT supplied hub just kept crashing.

So, is it possible to switch the Sky supplied router into modem only mode and continue using my far super TP link router for my home Wi-Fi network?

In short, no, there is no modem only mode with any Sky Hub.

You may be able to use the TP Link router in place of the Sky Hub, or turn the wifi on the Sky Hub off and use the TP Link as an access point

A mesh network works just fine in AP mode.

Re: Considering switching to Sky ultrafast

Could I just use my own TP link router instead of the Sky one?

I had BT 900 for a few days a couple of years ago (had to cancel and go back to Virgin, long story) and just never used the BT hub

Re: Considering switching to Sky ultrafast

So looking at you solution, I would disable Wi-Fi or rhe Sky router, change my tp link router to ap mode, leave my upstairs node as is?

how would the sky router connect to my tp link router?

would my current split 2.4 and 5ghz setup remain as is?

@Johndm1957 TP-Link routers do not support Sky's primary authentication method which uses DHCPv4 Option61 they only support the alternate DHCPv6 PD which only 80% of Openreach exchanges can use. Asus and some other manufacturers support both.

Personally Inuseca TP-Link Deco mesh dystem operating in Access Point mode behind a Sky hub succesfully. I still want the Sky land line services which means I have to keep the Sky hub attached to the line. I could use the Deco in router modecand deal with any issues caused by the double NAT set up.

Re: Considering switching to Sky ultrafast

My current setup works faultlessly using my Virgin router in modem only mode.

This issue is the only thing putting me off swapping to Sky, is there any solution like just a suitable modem instead of using the Sky router?
