Connection speed to router is reduced so TV and laptop signals are not consistent

I live in the annexe to a bungalow. I have a Sky Puck for the TV and a laptop which I use in the annexe.

The router is in the main bungalow, approximately 10 metres away. I have set up a 'Netgear' booster in the annexe and plugged the laptop into the router with a Cat 6 cable. The TV struggles to connect to anything and often I cannot load programmes. The laptop performs poorly when I have video calls and friends. I am starting to think that the only way to cure the problem is to hardwire into the annexe and connect the laptop and TV this way. The TV in the bungalow works well and connects to the router with no problems. I would appreciate any suggestions or comments in relation to resolving the problem. Many thanks, David.

@davey4

WiFi boosters rarely work well, particularly with Sky Stream.

What broadband speed is received by the router in the main bungalow? What speed is reaching your Stream puck? To find out, open the Netflix app, navigate to the get help menu and run a network check.

You may be better off with powerline adapters rather than a booster. These use your existing electrical wiring to transfer your broadband signal to other devices and often have ethernet ports so you can connect a Stream puck and laptop directly to them. They're pretty cheap (£30-£40 for basic ones) and can function well. Alternatively, a correctly installed mesh WiFi system can work well too but these are more expensive and require more careful setup.

Hi Padam Padam, I am getting 96Mb ps in the bungalow and 18 in the annexe. I will have a look at the powerline adapters, thanks!

18Mbps is definitely too slow for Sky Stream. Powerline adapters should give you a much better chance of getting closer to the speed you get in the bungalow.
