Connecting devices to 2GHz

---Terminolgy is probably not correct in the following message ---

After connecting my replacement Sky broadbank hub I noticed that a couple of devices now do not work.   Those in question are the Hive system and tapo plugs which, apparently, will only work on 2Ghz.  (I was really happy with my previous Sky hub even though it showed it wasn't working correctly - at least the Hive and Tapu plugs did!).

I am happy about separating 2Ghz and 5Ghz on the wifi page and renaming the 5Ghz SSDI (following the instructions on this discussion page).  The following are things I am not sure of:

  • Can I rename the wifi 2Ghz one too - eg 2G at the end?
  • Do I need to change the passwords on both the 2Ghz and 5Ghz tabs? I only changed the 5Ghz SSDI name (and accepted the changes on both tabs) but didn't change either of the passwords.  On my iphone I could see both the 2Ghz an 5Ghz wifi addresses but my phone refused to accept my Sky wifi password even after turning it on/off.
  • How do I tell my SkyQ and mini boxes to use the 5Ghz wifi and not the 2Ghz one ... it's probably a simple answer but my brain is now completely fried.  And if the password is changed on the 5Ghz will my SkyQ box accept it without too much swearing from me.

I have reversed everything back to how it was before I started fiddling and thought I would seek help.  My new Sky broadband hub is black and stands upright.

Thanks

@BrizeNorton9796 How did you have the settings on the old sky Broadband Hub that is the important part. The Tapo and The hive would have connected on a ssid/password combination so you want to have that setting on the new sky hub. Then switch a tapo off/on and it will more than likely connect fine!.

Re: Connecting devices to 2GHz

Hi Jim

I am not sure about the old settings on the previous Sky hub.  I just plugged the new hub in and it all worked with new password including pairing the mini sky box  with the main SkyQ box.  Iphones and laptops all connected perfectly too. It was only when I looked at the Hive app and it showed that the receiver/thermostat were offline and so too were the Tapu plugs.

I have tried all the different instructions with Hive and nothing works.  It could well be a problem with the Hive but as the instructions  suggested separating the Ghz  I thought I would have a go before contacting them.  Tapu plug instructions say they will only work on 2 Ghz.  The Google Nest was a pain to re set up with the new password but all worked fine - eventually.

Is it worth me changing the present wifi name and password to the previous ones?

@BrizeNorton9796 No you have setup 90% of the equipment so no point in doing any more changes. You hav NO idea now where the hive is at and the Tapo plugs, so watch the hive video for reset and connect and same for the tapo, reset those and connect them one by one again!

Re: Connecting devices to 2GHz

Thanks Jim.  I'll watch the video and glad I don't have to reset the wifi address/password!
