Clarification of social tariff

https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-social-tariff

Sky Broadband Basics costs £20 a month for 24 months. It includes:

  • Full Fibre: Sky Full Fibre 75 or 150; or
  • Part Fibre: Sky Broadband Superfast 35 or 80; or
  • Copper: Sky Broadband Essential Plus, if fibre broadband isn’t available where you live.
  • Sky Pay As You Talk. Only pay for the calls that you make.

My premises has Full Fibre (FTTP) at 36 Mbit/s via Openreach network.

If I join Sky, what determines if I get 75 or 150 ? Is it just whatever package I choose and then get the social tariff discount applied ?

I have checked the forums but can only see social tariff @ 36, no mention of 75 or 150. Have tried chat, but the Bot is worse than useless to say the least!

Part fibre has two speed bands because it makes sense to provision on lower-cost 40/10Mbs where copper line length means 80/20Mbs cannot be supported.

ISPs have no profit margin on a social tariff account, and so will offer the lowest cost wholesale product they can obtain.

@Electron Sky's social tariff is only available if an existing Sky customer is on one of the named benefits and struggling to pay the full cost of their broadband service. It is not a standard product you can choose to buy as a new customer AFAIK.

Like BT Sky offer social tariffs belowfull cost at the prompting of Ofcom .

@Electron

As @Chrisee says Broadband Basics is only available to customers who already have Sky Broadband.

Re: Clarification of social tariff

https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/2515311 That makes sense for FTTC with last part cooper but I'm already FTTP. Having checked the website, Sky are selling both Full Fibre 75 and 150 for £27 p/m, so maybe thats why the choice on social tariff but I'm still non the wiser.

https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/2606732 I qualify for the social tariff with my current ISP but my contract is nearly over. They now require that I move to a more expensive package (and faster) £24 a month, which I simply can not afford right now. I have no phone contract so having a reliable internet connection is vital.

Lets say I join Sky as a regular customer, is there a time limit before I can apply for the social tariff eg a week, a month or do I need to complete a contract first ?

Is there anywhere I can read the T&Cs for the social tariff, maybe that will clear things up ?

Do any offical Sky representatives post on these forums ? If so could you provide some clarification please ?
