Hello, I would like to look into replacing my ER110 Sky router with a 3rd party one, specifically a GL.iNet Flint wifi 6 router. What's the best way going about this? Can I put my ER110 into a modem only mode or something? If I do replace my router will my telephone still work properly? Thank you!

No Sky Hub has a dedicated 'modem-only mode': they will always route traffic.

As you have a Q Hub, telephony isn't a router function: for that you'd be using a Sky Broadband Hub.

After more research, it looks like I could buy a cheap tp-link modem router and replace the sky one with it then use that as only a modem and connect my GL.iNet Flint to it. There are two things that I'm not sure though. One is that I don't know if the GL.iNet router supports DHCP option 61 and the second one is that I don't know if this would work with my sky TV box. Thanks for the clearification

You will get no benefit from using the
GL.iNet with a tp link modem router than disabling wifi on the sky hub and using the GL.iNet as access point
You want to look at the tp link vr2100 which does appear to authenticate dhcp option 61 and maybe make use of its onemesh functionality by daisy chaining a few of them together for a mesh
IE primary router authenticates and the rest set up in onemesh mode should work well on an fttc vdsl setup

In the uk the tp link vr2100 should use the following credentials
Select timezone and country
Select atm/ppp
select sky mer vdsl
username anything@skydsl
Password anything
Vlan id needs set to 101
And MTU needs set to 1500 or accept the default value of 1492 if you can't change it

Thank you and that makes perfect sense. Butt the reason why I wanted to use the GL.iNet was because I want to use it to block ads and use it's VPN funtionaliy. I am not too bothered about getting extra reliablility/range as the sky one is already fine for that. Would this GL.iNet router work or is my only option for third party routers the tp link vr2100?

@waterbottleguy I wish Sky could change & do away with this DHCP option 61, would make things so much easier with choosing 3rd party kit that is compatible, but we can all have dreams....🤣
