Hi,
I am currently with Sky for both TV and Broadband (out of contract).
If I sign up with a new separate broadband provider, do I just do that with the new provider and it will be automatically cancellled on the Sky side?
I gather that I will still be able to program my Sky boxes to act as extenders?
Also will I be able to keep the same landline number?
The background here is that I had a long conversation with Sky about getting my prices reduced and the best offer they could give was £15 more than the headline price (I don't just mean the new customer price, I mean the price in brackets after the new customer price which I assume is the price that you revert to at the end of the deal in real terms) - eventually I asked to be put through to cancellations. Someone from cancellations came on the line and I was then promptly cut off.
They would not even give me a competitive price for the broadband part let alone the rest.
(Sky custome 18 years).
Given all the nonsense they told me about how I am on an "old contract" and therefore I am not entitled to any deals on the basis of current service pricing, I am now formulating a plan to ditch Sky for a year so I can come back as a new customer later on. I am thinking it's best to move the Broadband first, downgrade the TV as much as possible whilst still staying in contract, and then use other options to replace the TV services we actually need during the next few months (probably requires new hardware puchase like Apple TV or whatever).
Along the same lines - can someone tell me which options to click on the Sky cutomer service lines to get straight through to cancellations without having a 30 minutes conversation with someone who doesn't have the authority to give the best offers?
Finally is there any truth in what the sky agent told me that I should call back on 5th August as they have "new offers" coming?

If the 'gaining' ISP is also on the national Openreach network, yes, but not if it's Virgin or an altnet FTTP provider.

Yes, manually, but on 2.4Ghz only.
Also will I be able to keep the same landline number?
There's no guarantee of that.

The receiving network is most likely BT or Talk Talk - I believe they are both on Openreach.
By the way are you saying that Vodafone have their own physical infrastructure for Broadband and don't use the Openreach copper network?

A further question here.
According to a discussion I had with a Sky agent at the weekend, I am currently paying £45 per month for the broadband part of my subscription. Therefore if I switch to another BB provider, I assume that Sky should automatically deduct £45 per month from my subscription price after the required notice period?

@Anonymous And the reason you felt it was appropriate to jump into someone else's thread for that rant is?
