Changed FTTH provider to Sky - much slower speeds

Today was my activation date for Sky FTTH, I moved from Airwire.

I have the main modem going into an ethernet splitter and then directly into the computer, no wireless.

With Airwire I was getting generally between 700-900mb download (mostly 800+) and near enough the full 100mb upload.

With Sky I'm getting 150-300mb download and around 70-85mb upload.

The only thing that's changed in the setup is the modem/hub and the provider.

Is Sky just slower as it has more users? Or is the hub not as good? Are there settings I can change?

I'd imagine Sky may well have higher contention, but just to check: is your Sky subscription to their Gigabit product?

Yup! Signed up for the 1gb package to keep everything the same.

Higher contention is probably the answer then.

It's not like 150-300mb is going to cause any problems, but still doesn't feel great dropping from where we were before.

Re: Changed FTTH provider to Sky - much slower speeds

Plugged the new modem in that they sent me today.

First speed test - 895mb down, 100mb up.

Every test since - 300-400mb down, 80-90 up.

No idea why it was so high then back to similar to yesterday. At one point yesterday it was down as low as 150.

From getting 700-900mb pretty much permanently from Airwire.
