Re: Certain apps not working when connected to wifi

This isn't really an answer to the problem since the issue was not resolved.

I am having the same issues since connecting a new (replacement) sky router

I am having to use my data instead of wifi which is going to start costing money if it's not sorted soon!

@pvcpro73 You may just have to get Sky involved to take a look at what you are doing, and if they have any advice to give you!

I think I have found the problem.

I decide to go back and start from scratch, unplugged everything from the router except the power supply, reset the router, only connect the ethernet cable from the ont into the router, all working great, set up all of the alexa and ring devices, able to use all apps on my mobile.

Then I thought i'd reconnect the rest of the set up one cable at a time to see if anything goes wrong, I connected the ethernet cable that goes to the gym which is basically a garden room, I have a second router in there which provides wifi for the gym and the garden, I went into the gym and connected to both available wifi connections, 2.4 and 5ghz. All good, went back into the house and auto connected to the home wifi, all bad, could not open the apps, etoro, duolingo, etsy seller.

Unplugged the gym cable from the router and all apps opened fine.

So it's when the supply to the second router is connected that the issues start, why would that be? There was never an issue before and I have had the second router set up for ages!

I already had opened up a post, I then stumbled upon this one and it seemed to have more traffic so jumped in as I had a similar issue.

Re: Certain apps not working when connected to wifi

To fix this on Sky Max Hub, u need to disable IPv6. Navigate to https://192.168.0.1/ on your browser. Username is admin, password is same as that of wifi, password for admin can also be found at the bottom of your router. Then go to Connection -> Local IP Network -> IPv6 -> Uncheck "IPv6 Enable" checkbox. This will take few seconds to apply, after this all your apps, whatsapp will work.

@Sunny_Sky disabling IP6 should never be necessary and can indeed lead to you being unable to access certain sites. Sky operate a full dual stack network which allows both IP4 and IP6 addressing.  Where this has apparently worked it is likely the hub rebooting has sorted the issue rather than switching off IP6.

There are reasons why some apps wont connect the first and most common of which is the setting of the Sky Broadband Shield is too low by default all Sky connections are set to age 13 as required by Ofcom. The account holder can change this to age 18 or turn it off completly in the My Sky product options area.

The second issue can be connected Sky's DNS not having picked up,a recent address change which can be dealt with by adding a public DNS address to the network settings on uour device popular choices are Cloudflare's at 1.1.1.1 or Google's ar 8.8.8.8.

Re: Certain apps not working when connected to wifi

@Chrisee I'd tried the obvious tricks for 2 days - rebooting the mobile, clearing the apps cache and data, reinstalling the app, rebooting the router, resetting the router, disabling the shield, lowering the security to WAP2. It didn't work with any of the tricks, then I called Sky customer care and asked to perform same steps but it didn't work. Then they replaced the router, even with new router I wasn't able to open Sky, Argos and few other apps. Then I googled and noticed many others are facing the same issue, one of the solutions was to disable the IPv6. Since I don't the know root cause of the issue therefore disabling the IPv6 may not be a solution but a good workaround.

This is the link I referred for workaround https://xdaforums.com/t/super-slow-apps-via-wifi-on-home-network-works-great-using-data-or-other-net...

I have 3 mobile phones and all are configured with UK Google Playstore. All apps were working on one mobile but not on other two

OnePlus 13 running on OxygenOS 15.0 which is based on Android 15 - few apps were not loading over Wifi

Samsung S20 running on One UI 5.1 which is based on Android 13 - few apps were not loading over Wifi

OnePlus 8 running on OxygenOS 13.1 which is based on Android 13 - all apps were working as expected on the same Wifi on both the routers. I didn't face any issue on OnePlus 8.

Since all apps were working fine on OnePlus 8 therefore the issue may not be related to router configuration IPv6 in isolation, but a combination of mobile phone/android versions and router configuration seems somehow causing the issue.

I can try adding DNS as you mentioned and its quite easy for me to replicate the issue, but since the apps are working fine on one mobile therefore I doubt it can be the cause? What do u recommend @Chrisee ?
