Can't update or install apps on android or YouTube not working properly. Wiltshire Area

Hi there,

I've noticed that Youtube videos keep stopping on videos and refuse to play beyond a certain point. I thought perhaps the app was out of date, but I cannot download or update any apps from Google Play. If I switch off wifi and use my phone, then I can download the apps fine. I've restorted to using a free VPN when connected to the wifi, only then can I download and update apps via Google Play.

I've seen that many users had this issue in the Yorkshire area at the start of the year, but it seems like this issue is now in Wiltshire.

Hi All,

I have an update on this. This might not work for everybody, but it worked for me. I spoke to lovely lady who has escalated the call to the tech team, but I have fixed the issue.

I don't connect directly to the Sky HUB, I have a seperate ASUS Router which provides WIFI to teh whole house. So tried I connecting directly to the Sky HUB and it worked! I could update and download all the Apps. That means that the issue was due to my seperate ASUS router and not Sky Internet itself.

I did some more digging and discovered this is a common issue with ASUS Routers. The fix, was to ensure that IPv6 was enabled in the settings. I enabled mine and selected the "passthrough" connection. After that, I could download and update all of apps without any issue.

This might not work for everybody. But if you use an ASUS Router, it worked for me.

Same here!

This appears to be a recurring issue with Sky BB.

Same story, if I use a VPN, everything works fine! Come'on guys!

If only Sky BB routers could be configured to be operated as modems like Virgin Media does....

Regardless, this does not fix the issue on my neck of the woods.

The issue is widespread across multiple ISPs in Europe and the US.

Crucially, it appears to be to some sort of IPv4 routing to ******.googlevideo.com (in case of YouTube).

The issue is not being taken seriously as multiple apart **bleep** suggests as a solution "just switch to IPv6 and it will work". I am sorry, but this is a non-solution in case of complex LAN/HomeLabs setups involving over 100 devices. As a result of that, nothing happens with Sky BB, Version, etc.

Personally, I mitigated the issue by using a VPN to reach to the Internet. VPN between my domestic edge-router and a NordVPN physical server. Clearly, this is not acceptable!

It is true indeed that if I use the Sky BB provided router, everything works (sometimes but not all the time!), and it would be of great help to allow the use of a cable modem (not router) as Virgin Media allows since forever. Yet, we are not quite there yet.

My suggestion is, let us come up as an united front and just make ourselves visible to the people who actually know their stuff (OpenReach Field Engineers).

Hi there,

I'm sorry that you're still experiencing this issue, but I want to confirm that is not my fault. While I  can apperciate your frustration I find this response to be quite strange and rather rude if I am honest. I explained in my posts pretty clearly, that I have a fairly unqiue setup which means I do not connect directly to the Sky and instead connect via a ASUS Router. I also explained that and I quote ""this may not work for everybody....but it worked for me".  I am not a Sky agent, just a random guy who found a solution that worked for me and was kind enough to share what that solution is so that it can help others who may have a similar setup.

As such, you advising that the issue is "not being taking seriously" and then you refrence my solution infers that I am somehow responsible for your network setup. Clearly this is not the case.

I suggest that you call Sky and try to get some support from them.

Re: Can't update or install apps on android or YouTube not working properly. Wiltshire Area

I tried your solution where you tried with the sky hub first and I had the same outcome where when connected to just the sky hub eveything worked as normal.

I then tried to enable ipv6 on my TP-Link router but couldnt get it to work as none of my devices, were getting a ipv6 address from it. So instead I turned my tp link router into access point only and everything appears to be working again albeit after restarting each affected device.

Thanks for posting your solution.
