Can't connect some of my smart devices

I have had a new router and now some of my device's smart plugs and smart lights say that 5ghz is to much and need to reduce to 2.5ghz. How do I do this?

So to split the two channels you need to go to your router config page which can be found by typing 192.168.0.1 into your web browser. To access the page, you'll need;

username: admin

password: sky OR your WiFi password

- Select wireless from the navigation bar and scroll down a little and untick the 'Synchronise 2.4GHz and 5GHz settings'

- Scroll to the bottom of the page and hit apply.

- Once the page reloads you need to go to the 5GHz wireless settings page on the sub navigation bar below where you click wireless before

- In the 5GHz section you want to go to the box called 'Name (SSID)' and add something like 5g to the end of the current name

- Scroll down and hit apply

- Then on any wireless device you should now see two networks. One network will be the same name as usual and will be 2.4GHz band and the other will be the usual name with 5G on the end (Or whatever you typed). Connect any 5GHz capable device to the 5GHz network and see if it works correctly. The WiFi password should be the same if you havent changed it.

Note that this applies to the Sky Q Hub and Sky Broadband Hub, but not the new Sky Max Hub

Re: Can't connect some of my smart devices

Hi I've got the same problem.

I got my max hub today and it wouldn't connect to any of my smart devices either.

Had a long conversation with Sky and they said apparently I can't return the Hub (due to some sort of security reason) but still stuck in a 'new' contract, and to plug the old one in for now, or buy myself another WiFi 6 dual band router, while still paying for a service that I can't use!! It's shocking, wish I hadn't bothered trying to upgrade, it's caused SOOOOOO much stress!

Have you got any further with your issue?

@Catmad90 & @Chattyman the recommended process with the Wifi Max hub is to turn off the 5GHz wifi band. Check the device you are using to set up the smart plug is still connected to the Sky 2.4GHz wifi go through the connection routine. If the device wont connect then it is likely is an issue with the device so try reset device and thrying to connect again. Once connected then using the My Sky app re-activate the 5GHz band and check the device is still connected.

I have asked the question of Sky and it is correct while you can reject the Sky Max bundle within 31 day cooling off period if you dont want the service but you still keep the hub which can be used without the bundle they will not send out a replacement Hub. Sky should require you to return any pod extenders..

If your devices definitely wont work with the new hub all you can do is raise a formal complaint with Sky see How to make a Sky complaint | Sky Help | Sky.com.
