Can sky just send me the router? Why does it have to be installed by a company?

Can I just get sky to send me the router 

instead of waiting three weeks for a

conpany to install it?!

@CharlesEdward5What kind of broadband are you getting from Sky? Is the infrastructure already in place for it?

Broadband from a particular ISP doesn't follow their router hardware around the Openreach network: each service is specifically comissioned for a particular address, and that has a lead time.  Ten working days is typical for FTTC, but a new FTTP connection requiring optical cable installation can sometimes take months.
