Can anyone tell me what you get when you have broadband boost as I have been paying 5 pound per month for for 3 years and don't know how they boost your broadband without any equipment, ?

They can't: it's a very poor choice of name.
The Sky Broadband Hub is an improvement over the Q Hub for local WiFi though, and the latter was the default for FTTC until recently unless subscribers opted to add Boost.
Separate wireless boosters are potentially claimable retrospectively under the terms of the WiFi Guarantee.
The link which @SKY1992bf posted describes the other benefits of the subscription supplement: it also used to provide access to the Broadband Buddy parental control app.
BT Halo 3+ Ultrafast FTTP (500Mbs), BT Smart Hub 2
