As you may be aware the public telephone system will be switched to VOIP in 2025. This means that my phone, presently connected to a traditional socket in the wall will stop working and I'll need to change to some sort of VOIP system for my house phone. I still need this option for work as helpline calls can't be routed to a mobile.
I have a 2 year old Sky Q modem driving sky multi-room and a sky dish, it only has 2 network connections on the back but I have seen on ebay a Sky Router with 4 network connections and more importantly a socket to plug a phone into giving me VOIP. How do I get my old router swapped out for a new one? Sky Virtual Assistant just send me here.
Do you think there will be a cost associated with this? I could upgrade to a faster package, would that trigger a new router? I could buy the new router off of ebay but who knows if it would work.
Thanks
Phill

No ISP has announced what it intends to do prior to PSTN switch off regarding the replacement or adaptation of router hardware which does not contain an ATA. As you observe, the Sky Broadband Hub (203/204) is capable of hosting a native VOIP service, while millions of Q Hubs are not.
Note that the onus is on ISPs/telcos to sort this out: it's not something subscribers are expected to do themselves.

Sky would currently want you to either add the Broadband Boost supplement to your subscription, or move to an Ultrafast product.
Any Sky Broadband Hub on eBay is dubious as Sky don't sell these to subscribers, and expect to get them back.
