Can I disable 5.0ghz signal on 4.2 router?

I got a very helpful response from @TimmyBGood on how to split the Wi-Fi signal on my new Sky 4.2 router. Unfortunately that hasn't solved the problem I'm having trying to reset a Wi-Fi controlled timer that only works on 2.4ghz.
Does anyone know if it's possible to completely disable the 5.0ghz signal and use only 2.4ghz.? If it can be done, would there be any downsides?

@Brendanjc of course you can but it will limit the WiFi speeds quite a bit. Most devices work with dualband a few need the bands split never hear of a device requiring a single band wifi.

@Brendanjc if you have a black simply log into the web interface andgo to the page for tge 5GHz band and turn it off. On the white hub the setting is in the My Sky app in the  WiFi Max area vlick on advanced options.

@Brendanjc hiven you referred to splitting the bands I assumed you know how to access the Wifi controls in the web interface.

However in simple terms type 192.168.0.1 into a browser which should load the web interface. Click on the Wifi tab and you will be required to Log in the username is admin the password is sky fir the older flat hub or the wifi password on the hub's label on the newer upright type. When the tabs appear click on the 5GHz tab and the setting to disable the band is there makectge change and click to apply and save the change. The hub will restart.

Re: Can I disable 5.0ghz signal on 4.2 router?

@Chrisee Hi, sorry to be a pest. I've followed your instructions but am not sure which box to tick/untick. The one that says 'Diasable' disables security, so I assume not that one.
Is it one of the options under "Wi-Fi Access Point"? If so, which one? I've already unticked "Sychronise 2.4ghz and 5ghz Settings", but there are 3 others all of which are currently ticked.
 Many thanks.

I'd imagine an option to disable one of those bands wouldn't appear until the unsyncronisation has actually been applied.

Note that this frequently fails if the administration settings are being accessed using the Safari browser on an iThing.

@TimmyBGood I'm pretty sure the unsynchronisation has been applied.
On the 5.0ghz tab I get the following screen. Just don't know what to tick or untick to disable 5.0ghz 🤷‍♂️

Re: Can I disable 5.0ghz signal on 4.2 router?

As suggested by @Chrisee and  @TimmyBGood I've managed to split the signal between 2.4gz and 5.0ghz and unclicked the "Synchronise 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz Settings" box, but the timer will still not connect to the Wi-Fi.
Is it possible to switch off the 5.0ghz signal completely, and if so how do I do it?

@Brendanjc in the unlikely event that will help, there should an option to disable the band on the 5GHz WiFi tab but I dont have access to the hub 4s screens to check.. However this is the equivelant of keeping a car in first gear because the clutch is heavy ie you are trying to solve the wrong problem..

Re: Can I disable 5.0ghz signal on 4.2 router?

If your device is struggling to see the router 2.4 GHz band then my advice is to temporarily split the SSID. To do so all you need to do is tick the box to in sycnronise them and rename the 5ghz radio with something like 5g on the end of the SSID.
Once you have connected your device then re check the box to synchronise the SSID. Ensuring that the name for both bands is now the same  as you had for 2.4, which should be the original SSID.
You do not want to turn off 5ghz completely as you will significantly impede your devices bandwidth.

Keeping the SSID synchronised rather than split enables your device to choose the best band for them at any given time.

For example, most modern devices perform there optimum on 5ghz. However, should you move further away from the router the device may auto switch on to 2.4 GHz as the radio waves longer and able to penetrate walls better and travel further.

Re: Can I disable 5.0ghz signal on 4.2 router?

@Anonymousthank you so much for your response. I had already tried splitting the SSID and temporarily un-synchronising the signals as you suggest, but unfortunately this hasn't worked despite numerous attempts, hence my question whether it was possible to switch off 5.0ghz. I guess my timer is just "old technology" and I'll have to replace it. Thank you again for your  response 😊. B.
