Buying a router

Hello .

We've been having problems with our landline and broadband recently , an engineer was booked but he never showed up . Subsequently found out he had in fact not been booked , waited another 4 days then he came today and fixed the line faults said everything was now working but he said the router needed replacing as it had high resistance or something . Contacted Sky and they said they would have to send out another engineer with the router , they wouldn't just send one out to us . I really don't want to spend another day waiting around for an engineer at this time of year you see .

So is it possible to just buy a sky router myself and set it up ? We just have Sky Broadband Essential Plus with a Q box on one of these hubs .

I have looked online but I see three different types of sky router . Would be grateful if somebody could point me in the right direction as to which sky router I could buy myself and plug in and connect without an engineer visit . If that is possible . Thank you for any advice .

@fgscv there are three current router models as listed on the top, line on this page https://www.sky.com/help/articles/set-up-hub-which-sky-hub-do-you-have the one you pictured is an old model and shouldn't be used.

The snag you are going to hit is Sky stopped giving hubs away around 6 years ago, they are now lent and have to be sent back if customers leave Sky. People selling these online shouldn't be as they remain Sky's property The newest white Wifi Max router is still very new and requires Sky to have configured your account so forget that. The upright SR203 Broadbsnd Hub are OK but in theory none should be sold as 100% of the fleet are Sky's property.

You eill find a number of the older flat er110 and er115 models being sold. They work and some were given away rather than lent,.

However I some what doubt the engineer was right about a faulty router it is a common comment they make so if the fault recurs you blame the router rather than the fact they didn't fix the fault. If you post your hubs stats forum members should be able to tell you if anything looks wrong. See Find your Sky Broadband router statistics

@fgscv one thing I will say is that i'd contact Sky and ask for a newer router as you should have received at least the Sky Q router when you took out Sky Q as the router you have only uses the 2.4Ghz channels where as the Q router (er110/er115)  uses the 2.4 and 5Ghz channels and forms a mesh with the Q box.

I may be a Sky Superuser but I am still just a Sky customer

Ok, that shows you have wbc fttp in your area . As you are still on an adsl line you can request 40,80,100,150,500 and 1Gbps with full fibre and get the latest sky broadband hub thrown in 👍

Boom, problem solved. Sky are unlikely to want to spend the wonga to fix an old line fault
