Buying SKY broadband but without landline costs

I'd like to buy SKY broadband full fibre 500, currently with Virgin but I can't get the website to skip past the landline bit.

I have a landline but like probably 75% of the country, I don't have a phone plugged in.

AI chat bot was useless, how do I navigate past this?

@cilitbangnthedirt  You can't have it without the landline you would need to choose the pay as you talk tarrif so you only pay for what you use

sky broadband costs are inclusive of the landline

@cilitbangnthedirt

Sky Talk is bundled together with Sky Broadband. You can't not have the Talk side of things. If you join Sky make sure you're on the Sky Pay As You Talk tariff (which is the default tariff). That way if you make no calls there are no Sky Talk charges.

Re: Buying SKY broadband but without landline costs

So SKY want me to pay for a service I'll never use.

That sound very scammy, a nefarious way to collect extra revenue, that's terrible customer care.

Ok, I'll take that into account and head back to the comparison site.

Re: Buying SKY broadband but without landline costs

Sky pay the same amount to Openreach for your connection regardless so there's nothing to discount.

The days of copper wire for voice (and hence "line rental") are pretty much gone for all new broadband contracts - its all VoIP so the phone plugs into the router. ISP pays Openreach for a broadband circuit and voice is routed via that.

Unfortunately even now most/all major ISPs can only manage Openreach broadband circuits if they're "attached" to a telephone number. That's not Openreach's problem either, its legacy systems on major ISPs.
