Thank u for the advice open reach came Friday and fixed. Defo rodent criminal action, so the have put a hard cover on 4ft of the cable. Fabulous service

Have you reported this to Sky?
Sky won't provide feedback regardingb thsi as thios isn't their issue, unfortunately working from home gives you no greater priority, once reported the SLA is 2 working days to be resolved.
So most likley would be Tuesday at the earliest for a repair.

'Protection' is nothing to do with Sky or any other Openreach client ISP: they get to use whatever infrastructure Openreach sees fit to provide.
I have observed that more recent installations are somewhat more robust than earlier ones, with greater use of cable covers between duct and CSP, but as always Openreach is balancing protection with cost and time for each of 80,000+ new FTTP connections a week.
