Broadband woes

@Romeo+W The EE router is quite good, powerfull wi-fi signal, and if you set it up right, it may do the job by itself, There is NO need to switch of the wi-fi on the EE unless you had a single mesh unit sitting right next to the router. If you have router, and say booster/repeater 30' away then leave them both on.

Does the ee hub have a stronger WiFi signal than the sky hub? So on the EE hub you can't have separate ssid for 2.4 and 5? I've never used the asus in repeater mode. That would help with the signal into our extension. I wouldn't need to wire it with Ethernet?

Would I need an WiFi 6 asus router to use it in repeater mode?

@Romeo+W EE router 2.4ghz about the same as the sr203, 5ghz is way more powerfull at throwing its wi-fi signal about, it is AX by default out the box, and you can set it back to AC mode, if you wish. No need to change the AP, routers are all fully backward compatible, look at it this way, your ring camera / doorbells and IOT devices are all wireless N 2.4ghz wifi(4). Phones may be the same, if only 3 years old, probably wireless AC wifi(5) and newer likely AX wifi(6), they all work. I am going to explain next post layout for me.

What's the AP?

@Romeo+W Two storey building, dormer style left right rooms, central stair, Router at top of stairway in cupboard used as PC/Printer workstation area, Master socket connected, covers all top of this floor, Sky router was in exact same place as the now EE. Down the stairs in hall, left LR, right BR all at front of house, back Kitchen/Dinning room open plan. RP-AX58 in hall covers all this area. Have Double front door, porch style so have trouble getting wifi out to ring, Powerline adapter in porch supplies wifi to this, redirected LR ring camera to this wifi, but can goto Asus RP if needed, may even get RP to go out to doorbell, but powerline is working, Powerline also goes to remote garage, 30' out in back garden, wifi needed for wife on the running machine, although mostly fast walking now, but covers the whole garden when needed.

It's all about placing the boosters were they are needed, an AP is really a booster or repeater. Will try to look back at your model. Have a look online, TP-Link do a good video, explaining mesh, it's really all about getting wireless about the property, you can NEVER beat cable. Boosters, AP's etc on wireless and even mesh always halve the signal unless they have a wired backhaul.

@Romeo+W If you are asking what my AP is its the Asus RP-AX58 model. AP is just a mode of operation that the device has, it makes it a simplear way to connect devices AP stands for Access Point.

Asus are powerful devices, that is why they are expensive, you get what you pay for, they have always been that way, Like android or apple, i am all Asus, network, laptops, etc. 

Sorry just worked it out, think you are asking about your AP, thats your Asus device, let me know what type it is will save me looking back through the post.

@Romeo+W Your Asus RT-AC86U is a full blown router and can easily replace any ISP router so you know.

I do have the RT-AC86U. I'd have to find some tutorials on how to use it as a router instead of the ISP supplied one. I know it's not WiFi 6.

@Romeo+W Start at asus.com, goto the downloads section, and download the english manual for the router. Setting it up is not difficult, and AX is only good if you have devices that are AX client's that would only be possibly your mobiles if they are new, and i mean maybe only 1-2 years old. In all of my equipment there is one new laptop for the wife about a year old now, and my new mobile, nothing else. wifi 5 to 6 is not much of a speed improvement. My son got the 1Gb/s virgin fttp service, likes to game, then found out when PS5 is connected to server for downloads just could not get better than about 300Mb/s, no doubts it peaks some times above that, proved it to him by doing speed test using wifes laptop which i said is AX wifi and also has ethernet port, both worked at 980Mb/s, its all subjective and the virgin would not play with his ring doorbell, so had to put back an old tp-link booster to buffer between both.
