Broadband regularly dropping WAN link DOWN.

Seems to happen a few times every day for the last 2 weeks. Weirdly the lights on the router all look fine, aside from the voice one going amber. Going into the routers diagnostics its showing DHCP lease expired from server. Connection DOWN. coming up a lot. Full log below with several examples. Line checks, cable swaps, reboots etc dont make a difference. Physically resetting all the equipment first thing most mornings seems to get it going, but it'll do the same thing a few times a day, and pretty much every morning. I'd log a support ticket with sky....but it doesnt seem like thats a service they offer and I gave up being on hold after 30 mins for the support line.

Re: Broadband regularly dropping WAN link DOWN.

Always needs a physical reboot. Eg I'm in Disneyland right now and my security cameras are all offline. Won't be fixed until I restart anything. Is there a sky support method that actually works?

Re: Broadband regularly dropping WAN link DOWN.

I'm seeing exactly the same issue.

Broadband drops; sky box shows Voice Amber, Broadband Green lights.

ModelSR203
Firmware Version7.02.0201.R

Broadband package: GigaFast

In each case I see this entry in the router logs:-

syslog: [139737.398000] eth3 (Ext switch port: 4) (Logical Port: 12) Link DOWN.
syslog: eth3.1 - WAN link DOWN.
syslog: DHCP lease expired from server. Connection DOWN.

Time between outages is almost exactly 38Hours, this makes me think it maybe a DHCP renewal issue.(although cause and effect here arn't clear)

The connection is otherwise good. Generally, I see log entries for DHCP renewal ~every 30 minutes or so. The only issue seen is around the 38-hour mark (since the last incident).

As the OP noted, the only fix is a hard reboot of the Sky router, a soft reboot via the router menu's won't fix the problem.

Re: Broadband regularly dropping WAN link DOWN.

Sky are sending me another router...although the chap did try to tell me it's because I have too many devices (30) and might have been downloading too much at the time. Will report back

Re: Broadband regularly dropping WAN link DOWN.

I have been having this problem since Cloudflare crashed the internet in June with an update. I put a timer on the mains plug to reboot the  open reach fiber router every 24 hours

@ad31 the Openreach ONT should not require rebooting unless it is showing a fault. Mine has been up and running for nearl 2 years without an issue. If an electronic devices is going to fail it will usually do it during a boot sequence so should kit should only be restarted when required. These units are designed for 24/7 operation.

Not being rude but while the Cloudflare incident caused havoc at the time it only affected those systems running that code which were mainly large scale servers in data centres not devices like ONTs and routers. The systems affected have been fully restored.
