This issue has now been resolved.
My broadband speed had dropped from 80Mbps to 44Mbps and even 3Mbps at one point, apparently this happens to compensate for the amount of faults on the line.
Called Sky Sunday evening, an engineer was here by Wednesday afternoon as the issue persisted.
He replaced the phone/broadband socket, cable & router, uncapped the speed limit & the line was riddled with faults again.
Openreach were called & came out the next morning.
He found that the phone/broadband socket hadn't been fitted properly but there was also a fault with the box outside.
Issue resolved & now back up to 80Mbps again without any dropouts.
Pretty happy with the service (would have been nice to have Sky come out sooner)

Spoke too soon,
all day without issues, now the dreaded drop-outs are back.
