Broadband hub v 3rd party router

Good evening. I'm with Sky Broadband and have gigafast but as per the hub is dreadful, I've had 2 engineers confirm that the hub cannot deal with the speed going through it currently and so performance wise I'm struggling.
I'm thinking of purchasing my own 3rd party router to use instead of the sky hub and am just looking for some advice or if anyone else has gone down a similar route?

Thanks in advance

@Danny69

Any router that has DHCP Option 61 authentication capability. The Asus AC & AX line are a good example
