Broadband drops frequently

My broadband WiFi drops in and out frequently with no pattern. I have an extender but that is as much use as a chocolate tea pot. I need a WiFi engineer too rest out house properly but keep getting passed around automated systems and user boards. FYI I am a Cisco qualified instructor and build virtual networks cc and secure then so would appreciate sensible suggestions. And yes, I have already turned it off and on again 😵💫

Re: Broadband drops frequently

I did ask for sensible answers or at least someone from sky who could actually help me fix this issue with their kit.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

It might help if you explained your setup a little more.

Some things that may help for some answers on here;

What Sky router do you have and what kind of Sky broadband service and speed do you have.

Location of your router.

Do you have any Sky Pods or Sky boosters.

What kind of extender do you have, if third party what is it.

Might be worth looking at the router logs to see if it's your WAN connection going down.

Re: Broadband drops frequently

thank you for your response.

I have the Wifi-6 router with Sky Max and an additional pod.

A neighbour has a similar set up and he needed 2 pods and a Sky wi-fi engineer to set his system. This is primarily due to having our houses built from bricks with a high iron content, who knew brick construction could be so different.

I have hard-wired all the main IT in the house with giga-bit switches and routers, but the wifi for mobile is still an issue.

I am typing at a gaming PC that is wired and gets over 800Gbps, whilst my phone (a 2024 high spec android phone) only gets 12Mbps

I appreciate that I can do my own wi-fi survey and install my own kit, but why should I when I am paying sky for a service that it not currently performing as it should?

I am also dissapointed that despite several attempts, I am always directed to the Sky Community (no disrespect intended) rather than a sky representative who could actually do something to help.

Re: Broadband drops frequently

@ChrisLem When you call sky for help just keep quite when the phone bot asked to direct you to the forum help. and eventually you will be passed to a CS rep to speak too. May take a while so be prepared for the call time....
