Broadband cancel and phone line

Morning All

i am looking at changing broadband from sky , based on cost and speed that is avalibale at my property, i did 'chat' online and was offered what i thought was a better price but from what i gather i cannot get any faster speed then around 45mb which in todays std is pretty slow and i can see this when i am streaming just on youtube alone

I am thinking of changing to a Vodaphone package for not much more money then i was offered and  at a greater speed which also would inc a phone line (that no one would use) but i want to keep the basic sky tv package i assume i can do this as i 'thought' i neeed a phone line for updates on sky system and this would still operate on a non sky phone line ?

That's never been a requirement for Sky Q, and stopped being necessary for Sky+ many years ago.

Do you know what lines Vodafone are using for your property? I would have thought both Sky & Vodafone would be using Openreach, which if thats the case, the speed should be the same with Sky or Vodafone

Vodafone has a longstanding carriage deal with CityFibre

To be honest I had not realised how many other places city fibre had expanded to

If you're getting buffering on a 45Mb connection, the issue is almost certainly internal.

  • I put in my exact address for that reason , didn't say otherwise but because I have a distrust of most large companies, I think i will email and ask specifically , as they are not likely to say otherwise and let me sign up regardless

Re: Broadband cancel and phone line

Just done quick search and as you mentioned,  Vodafone do use BT openreach , pretty sure no city firbe at my address, so it's confusing

Are you able to post the speed estimates from both the Sky site & Vodafone site?

It sounds like your currently on a 40mbps FTTC line with Sky and Vodafone are offering you a new service on FTTP. Are Sky not offering an upgrade to Full Fibre in your account? If not it may be because your area has only recently gone live for FTTP, Sky can sometimes take time to update their database or get kit in the exchange.

Re: Broadband cancel and phone line

An update I have a good friend who works for BT at my local exchange, who  found out my road is set up for full firbe so was shocked at not being offered it. So now I 100% know I can make a decision. Could get back to sky but their pricing for existing customers is poor so likely to change thanks for the help everyone 🍻

Putting the address into the BT Wholesale Availability Checker would confirm that.

https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/AddressHome

It's the table and the two text lines below it which are most useful.

Remove any personal information (such as the address itself) if you post an image.
