Broadband being cancelled with my instigation a switch!!
I've received an email from Sky today to say 'we've been notified by another provider that you're transferring' basically telling me that as of 5th June my Broadband will be terminated and I'll be liable for £326.50 in cancellation fees. I've just re contracted my broadband with Sky on 30th April and have made NO attempts to shop around with other providers so I have NOT instigated this switch. I called sky immediately and was told it's called an 'unsolicited theft' and it needed to be escalated. I was transferred to another department who told me they will escalate it but due to OFCOMs rules changing in September 2024 it's very difficult to cancel a switch once it's been started. I don't understand how this can happen?? The account is in my name and my name alone, so whoever has started this switch with another provider surely would have had to give my name, know that I'm currently with Sky and provide my full address which is freaking me out! I was told by the lady at Sky that within 48 hours they will know if they can cancel it. If they can't, they then have to contact openreach to get the new providers name so they can contact them and tell them not to do the switch. In the meantime she said I need to wait to see if anything arrives in the post IE a welcome pack or new hub from another provider. I think this is MADNESS. How can I be the customer and not be able to stop this from happening? How can I not be provided with this new providers name that is trying to open an account with my details when I don't want it? If anyone has any advice I'd really appreciate it as the woman I spoke to at Sky didn't sound at all confident they'll be able to cancel this due to the new switch regulations! Thank you

@Strangledankles Then she is wrong, you have had the e-mail from sky and if they have confirmed who you are and you passed all the security then they will put a stop transfer on the system. The unfortunate part is a waiting game to see if it all works, the system for OTS is not 100% fallible so somethings just do not go to plan, that is when it becomes the nightmare.
