Hello,
I signed up for Sky Broadband after the first ISP I tried activating canceled my order (without contacting us or updating us online) and couldn't get it together to reopen and reschedule. So now my overdue Sky activation, which was yesterday, is rather familiar.
I received the text yesterday saying "Hi. Your Sky Broadband & Talk will be remotely activated today (anytime up to midnight). Once your services are active, we'll send you a text to confirm."
Nothing since then. My online order information hasn't changed since yesterday, still showing 6 Oct as the activation date. I have looked through Sky's help articles, all which are vague while also being dismissively positive-sounding.
I called and it was too early for anyone to answer so I eventually went through a menu for broadband technical issues. The automated woman said that they are experiencing delays. But this is unsatisfactory to me. What kind of delay? How long will it be now? Why isn't it being communicated to me directly? If they could send me a text when it's activated, why not do so when it isn't?
I know there are others who have had this. There are news articles dating back to the early 2000s about broadband activation delays and how it's usually Openreach problems. So with Sky, what can I expect now? Are they going to tell me what went wrong, and when would they inform me? How much longer am I going to be waiting?

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@Lalaine activation does not always go to plan but call Sky now as they should have the report overnight as why yours didnt work. Many possible reasons but typically when the engineer comes to switch the line over the connection thstvshould be available to use isnt there or doesn't work so further work is required.

I called Sky, but they didn't know anything. They checked to see if there was any information in their systems but didn't have any details from Openreach. They said they should know something by 8pm Wednesday (or so they say) and contact me with the next step, whatever it may be. Meanwhile, the activation could still happen and I'd get the confirmation. This is such a bizarre experience, with Openreach and Sky not communicating nor seeming to be keen to get the job finished.

Sky are absolutely terrible!!! I switched from virgin thinking sky would be alot better to deal with but how wrong was I! I put in my order on the 22nd of Feb, received my modem on the 28th with activation due on the first. I made several calls to make sure all was going according to plan as we have been without broadband for a few weeks and was assured numerous times it was. Activation never happened on the 1st of March. I called the next morning and was told I'd have to call on Monday but he could see a new activation date of the 7th. I called Monday and was told the 12th. So that's 19 days of waiting to be switched on. It's just not good enough. It's obvious to me something went wrong or someone didn't do their job correctly and they are just fobbing me off. I asked to speak to a supervisor but this wasn't possiblr. Why? My neighbour put in an order on Thurs 29th of Feb and was up and running on Monday 4th.
