@squib6 I have just received a text from Sky saying "A repair ship is needed to fix the damaged subsea cable causing your outage""

At least they have updated the situation, even if we knew that days ago!!

Can you remember where you signed up to recieve updates? I must not have signed up to that.

@squib6 I think it was on a phone call about a previous issue. It asked if you wanted to be kept updated by text then press 1.

Thanks I'll have to attempt to phone when I'm off work if this is still ongoing.

Re: Broadband Outage in Shetland Islands for SKY customers

@squib6  Unfortunately, To leave tge contract I think speeds have to drop to a seriously low speed.  For instance I get 41mbps on a 67 mbps package tgat I feel is terribly low. But I think they see below 30mbps low. But after only being with them a month, and them now also not calling me back as promised, sending me a Puk that didn't work when they agreed my internet was too weak for one, then charging me £38 for the Puk when they agreed I'd returned it..... Ive had so many calls with them in one month. I don't think I ever spoke to my last ISP.  That's why I would prefer to pay double and just get a lovely service.

Well impressed!! How did you find out which vessel had been tasked with repairing the damage?

Re: Broadband Outage in Shetland Islands for SKY customers

@SteveJack the old adage when you live in Shetland " Its not what you know, its who you know"

According to Shetland Telecom, Faroese Telecom need permits because of the new beach landing for the cable (its not going back in the same place) and are awaiting those before the ship leaves.

They also need to load additional equipment because of the complexity of the job.

It is a 4 day Steam from Calais to Orkney before repairs can even begin so that's through into next week even if it left now. As of writing this she is still alongside in Calais.

I have switched to EE, though my new router has been in Glasgow since Sunday!

Contacted EE yesterday who have sent another. Will still be quicker than the SKY repair!

Hmmm - looks like it's just out into the channel and heading back 😕

I've ordered an eSIM on a different network to use as a data hotspot - means I can now try EE, O2, Vodafone and Three and hopefully I can wangle enough phone signal on one of them to get some internet at home ... 🙄
