Hello all,
I have recently looked into getting rid of the main sky hub installed in my home back in 2018 as the parents require a VPN connection for the usage of UK channels (Sky Ireland) the main hub doesn't support this but I first tried getting a second router to act as a VPN router but now with 3 routers in the house the signal has became very poor.
my next goal was to try and source a replacement router for the main hub, I saw that the ASUS routers were recommend and saw the DSL-AX82U was the most recommended, but now I have seen that the ability to split what users are using the VPN which is a common feature on my cheaper TP-Link routers, is instead a feature called VPN fusion on the ASUS routers, and from what I can read isn't supported on the above router, I have heard horror story's of replacing sky routers with third party solutions, and the operation of my network after the replacement is crucial. Can anyone recommend me a similarly priced router that both works with sky fibre and supports this feature, or even better, if I am misunderstanding the functionality of VPN fusion, and the need of getting something different then the AX82U is false.
sorry for the lengthy post but it's very intimidating to me so thanks in advance.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@BSIrl firstly this isnt the best place to ask how to get round copyright resytictions on TV channels given Sky own the forum!
In ireland virtually any router should work as Sky Ireland use PPOE but it does depend on the exact service your family buys. If you post your Sky hubs connection stats itvshould be possible to be more exact Find your Sky Broadband router statistics.
Having multiple routers is a recipe for issues. Simply if you have multiple wifi networks in a house they will interfere one with another.

Hello, thanks for the reply, as for the copyright laws? Best to find my answer fast then 😂 but anyways the router is a model SR203 broadband hub, I can't pin to you what specific package I have I just know it's fibre. Though if you have any advice as to how I can find that out that doesn't involve me going through the nightmare that is mySKY then please share.
As for the router statistics I don't see anything in here which would tell me what package I have

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@BSIrl there is a reason why UK TV channels are not openly available in Ireland which is down to broadcasting rights discussing how to get round these restrictions is a form of piracy and is against forum rules for pretty obvious reasons..
Does the hub connect to a phone socket or to a fibre ONT with lights? Both supply services described as fibre. The former requires a modem router the latter a simple router. Sky use different networks forcdifferent products including SIRO and EIR etc etc
