Re: Be careful - expected download speeds are not what you will receive!
Do note that Wifi will not offer gigabit, depite marketing, only a wired connection will 1gbps constantly
Please use a wired Ethernet connection, wifi has too many factors at play
For example, my personal connection is 2.5gbps symmetrical - I get that on wired, but wireless gets around 800-900mb/s depending on network conditions

this is what I was asking - why wasn't I offered it if I've had the 900Mb/s gigafast connection installed
There appears to be a bug in the Sky ordering system: existing customers with G.fast cannot order WiFi Max even when upgrading to FTTP because the nature of the current internet connection blocks the Mx Hub model from being allocated to the account. Presumably this should really be possible retrospectively but that appears to be a problem too.

I wasn't an existing customer though - I only had the copper connection before.

If you had 150Mbs over copper then it was G.fast, and it's this which seems to cause the glitch with the Sky order processing for WiFi Max.

Ah OK - I thought the 150 Mb/s was called Ultrafast and the G-Fast stood for GigaFast. Nothing makes sense!

I switched to gigafast 4 days ago and my WiFi speed has gone to 12mb can't even watch a 4 k movie 6 calls to sky £10 x 6 admin fees =£60 an no solution told me to buy a pod from them £10 admin fee and £4 monthly charge to fix but guess what made no difference as never needed a pod before upgrading an could watch 4k TV no issues .

That's an error: there shouldn't be any fee applied for fault reporting.
My guess is you've got a white Max Hub: these do appear to significantly underperform in some properties.
Sky cannot insist you keep the WiFi Max subscription supplement if it isn't helpful, but ultimately they also aren't obliged to resolve WiFi issues.

it's very frustrating as never had WiFi issue before the gigafast upgrade sky don't understand that's my point no pod needed for 18months on previous sky broadband lower speed package .an the fact that the pod has made no difference tells me it's sky issue not me as nothing my end has changed router same location .even in the same room as route hub 12.4 mb WiFi speed .

@Beebee88 Showing you are connected as a wi-fi 5 device and what is that device you are using, 250Mb/s may be about it's limit!

It's my tablet but my phone says the same, is that the little 5 on the WiFi logo at the top? Is there any way I can change that? Thank you for replying.

@Beebee88 No that is device specific chipset and attachement device properties.

Re: Be careful - expected download speeds are not what you will receive!
@Beebee88 & @JimM1 the pods that come as part of the WiFi Max package are WiFi5 devices themselves not WiFi6. However WiFi5 should offer speeds up to around 650Mb/s in decent conditions. So the lower speeds are down to the signal strength the device can access in that location or the backhaul between the pod and the hub either of which can limit speeds.. Note Sky only guarantee a minimum of 25Mb/s in every room for WiFi Max if customers require higher speeds they need to invest in third party equipment.
In practice increasing bandwidth from 250Mb/s to 500Mb/s will only really show when downloading large files or running speed tests. If you regularly handle large files running an ethernet cable is highly recommended over any WiFi solution.
