Re: Are you allowed to use your own router instead of the sky hub ?

thanks @Chrisee and @cookiemonsteruk for your swift responses

any idea where i could ascertain for certain if its supported and also if it is what i axtually have to do, i see some discusions about entering in a client identifier string into the option 61 box - what is the string i need to enter or do i not need to enter anything and simply selkect the option 61 as the authentication method?

I already have the nighthawk rouer from a current setup so dont want to change but equally i havent paid for service from sky yet as i want to make sure it works... i also hear there is a way to disable wifi on the sky hub and just run ethernet cable to my netgear, is this an option? reason i ask is have couple of ubiquti access points around my house running so want to use the nighthawk to flood an area and also utilise the ubiquiti's (thisis my current set-up via virgin hub in bridge mode) - i really just want to have same set-up via sky ....

hope this makes sense

im a little confused  on this point

thanks again folks

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

@Stephen_J you have 31 days from activation to reject Sky Broadband without cost so have ample time to test your equipment. As posted your hub should connect directly to the ONT. The string for the Option61 method is

anything@skydsl|anything

It is straightforward to connect any router behind a Sky hub which creates a Double NAT set up by simply connecting the routers WAN input to one of the Sky hub's LAN sockets. Disabling the Sky hub's wifi is also straightforward the method depends on which hub Sky supplies the white hub's settings are in tge My Sky app while the black hubs use the web interface.

one last point keep the Sky hub's settings to hand as Sky require it to be connected to diagnose line faults.
