G.fast was also fundamentally hampered by the need for local pods to be powered, and that the maximum distance over which the minimum 100Mbs could be delivered was extremely limited.

Ok I see but what will  happen  to your  broadband using the copper phone line when it's  changed  to fibre optic cable as is happening

FTTP can replace G.fast when the national rollout reaches an area previously served G.fast pods.  At the moment it's the choice of the user to make the move (although all new provision would be optical), but eventually Openreach and BT Wholesale will want to cease G.fast support entirely.

@TimmyBGood  Had the choice of g.fast and thought I was going to get it when I did take out ultrafast 1, but to my surprise it was FTTP and upon check could see that g.fast was now not an option.

If someone has helped give them Like.

Re: Are GFast speeds artificially lowered?

Thanks for your reply, as well as your subsequent ones, looks like the down speed to the router is 121mb/s as advertised, so I suppose there isn't anything wrong with the line or on sky's end

Unfortunately nothing can be done until the speed drops below 100Mbps

Re: Are GFast speeds artificially lowered?

@cookiemonsteruk  @Highlinder  thanks both for your replies, I knew that GFast was being phased out which is probably why sky don't offer the full range of speeds, it's annoying that around where I live (North Kent-ish) FTTP is slow to be rolled out, even in moderately dense areas,

@peter-marlow+1966  it is often worth googling things you don't understand in the first instance, especially when replying to forums, this conversation now is mostly discussing the mere existence of GFast rather than any issue that I may have been facing. I am glad you now hopefully know what GFast is,

To everyone else that read or replied to this thread, thank you for your quick replies, and apologies for possibly wasting anyone's time as it turns out nothing was wrong,

Have a lovely evening

That was never relevant to Sky broadband because the SR204 variant of the Sky Broadband Hub had an integral G.fast modem.

Sky has only ever offered Ultrafast 1 ('up to' 150Mbs with a 100Mbs minimum) over G.fast: they never resold the 300Mbs wholesale band which was historically available through some other ISPs.  Neither version is now listed for new customers of the vast majority of service providers: Sky is one of very few left.

Sky did offer Ultrafast 2 when they started to sell G.Fast but it only lasted a few months when it became obvious that the Openreach database was being a bit over-optimistic about the reach of the higher G.Fast speeds.

I'll have to have a rumage because I have a copy of some old T&C with all the available broadband options listed that Sky was offering at the time.

Ah, yes, mentioned here:

Launched nine months before Openreach announced they were suspending all future G.fast rollout...
