Another failed openreach/ultrafast plus set up.

Hey everyone

Signed up for ultrafast plus the second I was told my area was ready.

Got today as my install date, 8am-1pm

Got the openreach text twice "send confirm etc etc"

This morning - jack is your assigned engineer... brilliant this can't go wrong can it!?

Guess who no showed, his phone rang, no answer.

So 2.45pm rang sky, oh jack isn't working apparently...bull.

So I've sat here for absolutely nothing.

£25 compo as a sorry and a rebook date of the 22nd, which I fully doubt will actually happen

Anyone else had this?

Looking on trustpilot... openreach are **bleep** this up big time.

@RJR88

Ultrafast Plus has to be FTTP, which isn't a trivial initial installation.  Have you had the first stage (fibre to the external CSP) completed?

Re: Another failed openreach/ultrafast plus set up.

As you seem to be aware of already it's an Openreach engineer that will be installing your FTTP broadband.

Sky have basically zero control over these engineer visits and if they're missed they usually have to wait up to 48 hours for an update from Openreach. The fact you have another appointment on 22/12 shows that it was an Openreach missed appointment on there end.

As long as the external work is complete and it's only the internal task that is needed to be completed then your FTTP install will be complete that day. However if external work is yet to be completed then unfortunately for you it won't be completed this side of the new year.

Once Openreach inform Sky what stage of your installation they are at you will get a confirmed internal installation date.

@RJR88 Openrreach schedule multiple appointments for each engineer in each time slot. Like you I had a missed appointment because apparently one the jobs before mine took far longer than planned. The engineer who finally  turned up a this week explained that on his previous job that morning he had to rig the fibre drop cable from a pole where the distribution point was to the house, install the Customer Service Point drill the wall and install the ONT which took 2 of them 2 hours it would have taken longer if he was not training another engineer.

My job was simple and took the lead engineer under an hour to finish alone - the trainee was off getting their lunch - but he had it down as running fibre through ducts from the distrbution point and installing a CSP but a previous crew had done that but it wasn't recorded. Apparently these mix ups sre not uncommon. Openreach are in a mess with fibre installs many being out sourced to sub-contactors.  Sky have their own engineers who can do the install from the CSP but can't do the prep work to that point so unless Openreach havecreleased the job you have to wait..

Its luck of the draw which is pretty bad but unfortunately it is the current position.
