Access to port 7654

My GivEnergy inverter has gone offline despite working fine for 3 months. 2 new dongles have been tried without success so it's not a hardware problem. The installer's colleague had a similar issue with another customer who had Sky broadband. He understands that Sky have recently blocked access to port 7654 that the dongle connects to. Has there been a firmware update that has caused this problem? How can this be fixed? Apparently he got someone at Sky to fix this remotely, but I have no idea how I could access this remote help.

There are a lot of GivEnergy customers, so this could become a very common problem!

@Martin1370 sounds like you need to open forward port 7654 to your GivEnergy invertor so the external server can initiate contact. These are the instructions of how to do that see https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Broadband-Talk/How-to-set-up-port-forwarding/ba-p/2662260 which work for the black Sky hubs. The latest white Hub 6 is simpler as the necessary settings are in the My Sky app.

Not aware of a change at Sky's end which blocks external access on all but service ports as a firewall should. Opening ports creates a security risk so should only be done when required.

Re: Access to port 7654

Thanks. If nothing has changed at the Sky end I'm not sure why I've only recently had problems with the connection. This is a very clear reply, but unfortunately I'm unable to test whether it works as I'm unable to identify the device  at the router. There are lots of connected devices that are clearly identified, but several others that are just labelled unknown.

@Martin1370 are you sure the invertor is still networked? One explanation could be it has lost its network connection?

Re: Access to port 7654

Yes I'm sure it's networked for two reasons. Fírstly the internal LED signals that connection has been made. Secondly I can browse the internet after forgetting my home network and connecting just to the inverter's WiFi.
