ASUS RT-AX59U working in router mode when connected via WAN to Sky SR204 with FTTC

Hi

Hoping someone can advise me why my setup is working when it shouldn't??

I have connected a ASUS RT-AX59U via WAN to my SR204 sky router fully expecting to have to use it in Wireless Access point mode. But after running through an auto setup it is happily working in router mode.

It has an IP from the sky router but all other devices now connect to the ASUS. I have turned off WiFi from the sky router and everything seems to be working fine.

We don't use any other sky equipment (TV or phone).

All advice I have read here says this setup does not work. Any ideas?

Would it be worth getting another cheap router to work in modem mode? Would we see better performance?

I have already seen improvements in WiFi/lan performance and internet is reaching line limits of 60-70Mb/s.

Thanks

Andy

Your setup will work fine, its just not the most recommended one because you now have two different IP address spaces to deal with & double NAT. It will also mean if you want to do port forwarding it will be twice the work
