I changed to Sky about four months ago and opted for 500Mbps. It worked fine, with about 75Mbps upload as well.
My network uses Cat7 cable to go to a Gigabit switch and then a mixture of Cat 6 and Cat 5 to go to a Mesh repeater system as well as directly to some PC's.
Recently, the hard wired PC dropped from 500 to 90 so I phoned SKY. The nice man asked allsorts of questions, some of which would have required unducting lots of cables to check that I was plugged into the right socket on the Sky router, but in the end holding wps for a minute rest the router and all was well after that ... for a while.
It has now dropped back to 90 and when I look at the Ookla log of measurements it is either 500 or 90. Resetting works most times, straight away (before dropping later) but I have waited for five days for it to settle down and it is still at 90.
I do not think that I should have to be resetting the router regularly.
Has anyone had similar problems ?

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreWhen this happens have you tried plugging one device directly into the hub, rather than through your other switches? To me this sounds suspiciously like either your WAN or LAN side cabling is reverting back to 10/100mbps ethernet rather than gigabit.

Third attempt to respond but the forum now has me on my third user name and I cannot reuse the old ones.
I did not see how your solution could work, but that shows exactly how little I know.
I plugged the router cable into a PC, rather than into the mesh system then the switch and immediately 500 again.
I now have it into the switch and then the mech and the PC and they all work fine.
THANK YOU
