Yep, it seems their Deep Packet Inspection is being a bit overzealous and can't take the load of imgur.
Luckily, DPI doesn't work on SSL traffic, so https://imgur.com works absolutely fine - this is definitely an issue of Sky inspecting traffic even with filtering disabled.
So yeah... use HTTPS and it's fine - and on the upside, Sky can't inspect your traffic as easily either.

I have the same issue. I'm on Sky fiber and imgur is pretty much dead. Switching to HTTPS works fine, of course... problem is I'm using imgur with reddit and most of the time I use an iPad app and cannot switch to https...
I can't believe I pay for 40mbit connection and can't load a normal image because of stupid network filters and such...

adding to the list, imgur been slow or non responsive all week, and still is now.
edit: just added the https everywhere extension to chrome browser, problem solved.

Adding my own Comment to this queue that Sky is screwing up Imgur delivery again. Other sky subscribers on twitter now confirm this and a quick check over a VPN and via Mobile Mifi shows that performance from imgur is bad.
