No you don't need a UHD subscription to potentially view UHD Iplayer content... It's just broken at the moment on Sky Q

But Sky Q cannot go into UHD without a UHD subscription. So if it worked, you would need a UHD subscription to watch UHD with iPayer on Sky Q.
If you have a TV iPlayer app (LG or other compatible TV) or Firestick 4k Max, then yes, UHD won't cost anything extra.

@LGUser , thats exactly what I do, use the native Apps (Netflix, iPlater, Disney, etc) in the LG TV for UHD, easier to navigate. If I cant get the UHD content on the TV, then I resort to the Sky box. The iPlayer App on LG TVs supporting UHD has been available for sometime now, so it theory should be more stable than the Sky version.
Still would like some clarification on the requirment for Sky UHD subscription to watch iPlayer UHD on Sky box though.

As I have the UHD sub I can't check but I don't think that is strictly true
I don't think you need to have to the UHD sub to watch Prime & Disney + in UHD via SKY Q & when Iplayer does eventually work for UHD I don't think you will need to have it for iplayer

Can you put the Sky Q box in 2160p without a UHD subscription? I cannot check as I have UHD.

Yes - Box resolution is not tied to subscription
If set to 2160p the SKY Q box will upscale HD or SD content rather the TV

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreThing is there is no choice, as far as I can see, to choose the non-UHD version of a program. I set my resolution to 1080i and it still only offered me the UHD version.
Also, Ithought that the BBC uses MPEG-DASH for their UHD content and the Sky Q boxes couldn't handle that.

"it would be a waste for us to deliver a 36Mbps UHD signal to a panel that can only display a 1280x720 HD image. Therefore, we have had to add code to detect the capability of the connected display and only offer UHD where the connected display is capable. There currently lacks a standard for detecting these capabilities, which made this quite difficult."
I'm guessing even if you set your display to 1080, the Sky iPlayer App is still reporting it still supports UHD?
It seems the Sky iPlayer App is still work in progress. Most UHD TVs will have a UHD iPlayer built in anyway? So the use case for a Sky iPlayer UHD App seems limited number of users?

New build this morning for me at 09:51am V25.17.8.0 but sadly still a black screen with only sound.
I have an active UHD sub, and my box is version 32B212 1TB HDR capable.
I hope they can get to the bottom of this soon, as my main TV's iPlayer app isnt supported for UHD 😞

25.17.10.0 here, but still a blank picture on the UHD programme I tried.
The version numbers keep going up - so hopefully it won't take long to get a working version.

iPlayer UHD is working on my Sky Q as of an hour ago. Sky or BBC must be rolling out a fix - I'd try again this evening.

Mine is also working for UHD content now. Same version.
Did note on system information it says:
Screen & Layout Resolutions: 1920x1080 & 1920x1080 pixels
Which of course isn't UHD so don't know what its referring to.
