i have the ultra fast broadband and currently only get 40 mbps download speed.

does anyone else have ultra fast broadband that only downloads at 40 mbps instead of the gurenteed 100 mbps? how can I ensure I get the minimum 100 maps?

@Richard+11167 How are you testing your speeds? When was it installed and which type of ultrafast is it, G.fast or FTTP (where the router connects to a separate modem rather than the main phone socket)?

hi, from those options I guess fttp. when it was installed it has a separate dedicated line. it's not thought the phone connection. not sure if that helps

I test the connection using the free apps and also fast.com

@Richard+11167 Ok that sounds like FTTP...how are you testing/where are you getting the speed result from, and which device and how is the device connected?

Only tests done via an Ethernet connection direct to the router, when your network is quiet, will show an accurate speed. Tests over WiFi are always slower, and will never deliver the full speed of your connection...

I'm testing with a free app called speed test and via fast.com. I'm using a Samsung s20 via WiFi.

That is pretty slow speed over wireless for a Samsung S20 which has 5Ghz wireless support. I'd try separating the wireless 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz bands on the Sky router and connect to the 5Ghz wireless band only and test again.

hi, I have not changed anything on my phone or router and the speed has increased to 120 mbps. any ideas why it would go from 40 to 120 without any changes?

It depends on which wireless band it uses, eg: it is auto-selected and negotiated between the router and phone for 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz. The reason I stated split the bands is it will always use the 5Ghz band and the faster speed offered by that wireless band. Otherwise, you may get the 2.4Ghz band which is much slower.
