In theory, Yes, and it's how it was marketed. But it's very hit and miss. Certainly not to be relied upon.

@TechGuy007 wrote:@Ed.B. I haven't got Glass or Stream but I thought that if you want to watch something that's still being broadcast, you can use the "watch from the start" function and then skip forward to wherever you want.
Again, in theory, Yes. But by the very nature of such a facility, you have to tune to the live channel to get the prompt, thus seeing the current score etc
There's also been reports of your 'behind time live viewing' ending abruptly when the original live broadcast ends.

So from the posts above it seems the only way to watch a sport programme before it's finished is to tune to the live channel and press 'watch from start'.
So I run the risk of seeing who's leading the grand prix, the golf etc.
Why can you not 'cloud record' something in the future or that's currently being broadcast from the tv guide and start watching whenever you like?

Because there is no "cloud record" capability with Sky Glass/Stream.

So why do sky say they allocate 1000 hours of cloud space to each user?

Because that page clearly states at the top "The content on this page may be out-of-date or have been superseded by newer information." The current FAQ is at https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Sky-Glass/Sky-Glass-FAQ/m-p/3886710

Either way, the timeshifting capabilities of glass/stream are substandard and could be easily remedied by sticking a small hard drive in the box, or even a USB socket

Substandard compared to what? The capabilities are very similar to, if not better than, other streaming platforms. For example, on an Apple TV box programmes only become available to stream after broadcast, sometimes many hours or days after. BBC stuff typically appears minutes after the end of broadcast, and STV stuff often appears before broadcast (if it's on BritBox as well), but most other stuff can take days to appear.
It's why I'll stick with Sky Q for as long as possible, so that I remain in control of recording the content I want to watch, when I want.

It would need a lot more than that. The box would also need the ability to receive multiple internet streams at the same time so that the box could still be used to view streams whilst other streams were recording. You'd need an EPG to define start and end times, etc. That will never appear on Glass/Stream, it's a streaming platform, not a recording platform. The clue's in the name.

The whole recording thing is bad. You can only start watching from the start on certain channels. You cannot do it on BBC itv channel 4 or 6. Instead it asks you to go to the app.
Also rewind only goes back as far as the moment you tune to the channel.
Live streams btw are
27 seconds later than SD on satellite
25 seconds later than HD on satellite
26.5 seconds later than UHD on satellite
So on stream you get the same point 25 seconds after it is on HD on satellite and 37 seconds after SD. UHD on stream is 26.5 seconds later than SD on satellite. Hope I clarified what I meant.
Given the closest possible you can get to real time online is 11.75 seconds they must be getting it from wherever sending it to a server then sending it to a second server - and it is the 2nd hop we receive.
Nevertheless it is still excellent PQ. Given by streaming box CAN record if they were yo put a ZPVR in this box it would be far better. Not going to BT. I have had too many issues with them but if it was possible to record it would make this so much better.

I must admit I'm surprised people are giving up the sky Q to go to the sky. Streaming box i've had sky Q in the past but end up moving and only able to have sky HD plus yes streaming box is a step forward over HD plus but nowhere near as good as sky Q for one lack of channels if you put it something into your store, planner and it's from the BBC, it won't be there straight away after a three or four ofand it's from the BBC, it won't be there straight away you're most probably have to wait three or four hours to watch it also the lack of been able to set a reminder for the program. It is definitely not the polished product with a long way to

Compared to the BT TV box Pro for starters, let alone Q which is wonderful but I can't have anymore due to dish restriction where I live.

Yes, The BT TV Box Pro looks like a great product, but does rely on multicast for it's multi-stream recording functionality, so you're tied to BT as your ISP. I'd recommend looking at it if Glass/Stream doesn't suit your needs.

Sadly I'm restricted to Virgin media so it's not an option

In that case the obvious alternative is Virgin Stream if it's available.
