@ukpab

Since UFO is a different service to a standard Openreach line why dont you just order FTTC from another provider then cancel your Sky UFO line once the FTTC has been activated. Then order Talk Talk UFO and cancel your FTTC connection within the 14 day cooling off period.

This would ensure you keep some sort of internet connection throughout the whole thing

Re: Cancelled Ultra Fibre Optic Broadband

Hi, We've had the same letter and suspected this might happen for a while.  Spoke to TalkTalk today and the guy said they had had quite alot of enquiries.  Their work around is to offer a fibre package and then once the line is released from Sky, we can upgrade to UFO.

Fingers crossed 🙂

Ive gone with virgin as our cab is full at the moment so we couldnt stay with sky bb. Talktalk said it would take around 2-3 weeks to reconnect. sky say if you want to keep your number you need to be moved onto a copper line.

Virgin are keeping my number it'll take 6-10 days for the number to exchange over. Our virgin is to be connected tomorrow with down time of only 1hr. No company is perfect but we can but try find a good enough one.

Re: York full fttp

I find this whole debacle unacceptable. I too have had the full FTTP from the outset. Just spent an hour on phone to a most helpful Sky advisor, but she and her manager were both completely unaware of the situation. Eventually we discovered the reality as you have outlined. It seems incredible that there is perfectly good fibre optic cable into my house but I may have to return to the copper!!! Not acceptable. The top brass at Sky, TalkTalk and Openreach need to get their act together. sky use the Openreach network! why not takeover the cables, zero cost, they are already there.  I have been a loyal Sky customer paying top whack for 20+ years, but not much longer. If all the thousands of customers in York vote with their feet I suspect Sky will wake up albeit too late

@Davidinyork

It has nothing whatsover to do with openreach as city fibre on which the infrastructure is based it outside openreach control. Additionally as a trial using city fibre sky are as much entitled to withdraw their service to concentrate on openreach as talk talk are entitled to continue

As mentioned above, and elsewhere, UFO was a trial project, and the scenario it was set up to test (that ISPs would have to lay their own optical networks in competition with Openreach, which was plausible around the turn of the millennium) hasn't proved to be what actually happened: this was already pretty clear back in 2016:

" Instead Darroch has confirmed that Sky will not build its own national fibre optic network to compete with Openreach (BT), Virgin Media , Cityfibre  and others, adding that they were more comfortable with being one of BT’s wholesale partners. Mind you this does beg the question, if Sky has given up on the idea then what future does the FTTH roll-out in York or beyond have? "

Re: York full fttp

I have found it impossible to contact them. The usual Sky customer service assistants do not have the number for them (Customer Resolution Team) and can only email a request for them to contact me, which over the past 9 months they have failed to do. I am not allowed to have the email. Some service!

Re: York full fttp

Some "Trial" !! 5 years.  My point is the cables are there, they work well, regardless of who put them there first. Like gas or electricity, they should be available to competitors.

@Davidinyork

That's just not how telecoms infrastructure is regulated.  To be fair, it's also not how gas or electricity works either: the distribution infrastructure for those is owned and run by regional monopolies which then resell access.
