Unfortunately previous threads regarding UFO suggest the 'relevant department' within Sky has been disbanded: a post from this time last year on a TalkTalk forum says Sky is no longer involved in the project.

@TimmyBGood  thank you for the link, I think I'll have a browse over the and see what's what. To clear up the price we have paid 30 for the ufo full since day one not 60 as is quoted.

Re: York full fttp

Hi again,

Sky ufo have just rung to say their side of the york ufo is estimated to be switched off November 1st.

1 of 2 choices go back to copper spped 3.5 - 4.9 " there's no point going with us" but no space in cab.

Or go with talktalk to keep the ufo, though fiber nation are taking over the whole network in york soon.

So if we go with talktalk, I have to cancel with sky then put order in 2 weeks wait on reactivation.

Was meant to be switched off last December but covid kept it going.

Re: York full fttp

Hi,

We too have been using Sky UFO since its roll out in York. I've been in touch with Talk Talk to transfer to them once Sky stop providing this, but they say it's not available at my property... it clearly is as I'm currently connected! Anyone else had any luck?

@cookiemonsteruk @Snarfang  I'm getting totally conflicting info from Sky and Talk Talk. Sky say the UFO will be provided by Talk Talk once they stop providing; Talk Talk say UFO is not available at my property. I've explained the situation and TT suggestion is to wait to be cut off by Sky and 'see' if it becomes available with them. Clearly this is not feasible as I'm working from home and need internet. I'm at a loss!

@Shopkins at least you appear to have a choice of services from Sky as you could buy a Sky Superfast service over copper thst is pretty much guaranteed to deliver 80Mb/s or a Sky `ultrafast service over copper (the G.fast lines) at speeds up to 150Mb/s. There is no Openreach fibre service laid to your street so Sky cannot continue to supply a FTTP service.

Assuming you have an operational phoneline Sky could provide either servicecwith a 14 day lead time. If you dont have an Openrraxh line wiuld be installed free of charge but can take longer,

Guess its a decision take a chance with the switch to Talk Talk or switch to a Sky service over Openreach lines to ensure contnuity.

Re: York full fttp

@Chrisee @Thanks. Yeah we've explored all these options and engineers have been round, and while we might need to consider as an alternative, it's going to be more money and cause a bit of upheaval in the house. We've had an extension built and the living area is now at the back of the house - current UFO Fibre cable runs under the floor from an entry point at the front. So either the flooring needs  to come  up, or cables would need to run on the internal walls. Engineers have tested and signal at front of house does not reach the back without a booster - again, possible but costly!

@Shopkins one posssible solution is to use powerline adapters that use your mains wiring to carry the network signals. I use these myself due the layout of the house and find they work well but performance depens on your mains wiring.

Re: York full fttp

Hi @Shopkins

I got the letter informing me that they will be shutting off fibre and telephone on oct 18th, I've signed up with virgin their speed is 1130mbps but its £64 for the fibre and weekend calls. Their kit super hub 4 will be here tuesday and its basically plug and activated after an hour.

The prices are fixed mind so you could check with cityfibre when their redoing the network on your street. So far ive had no luck as cityfibre dont seem to want to contact anybody at the moment 😞 Talktalk are cityfibre/ fibre nation so those are the 2 youd have to contact.

hope ive made some sence.

Re: York full fttp

@Snarfang Finally spoke to someone at TT that seems to know something about this just now. They've advised that it has to be completely cancelled/disconnect from Sky to show as available, then they can sign me up to their UFO (£32pm). They don't know why, but this is the case. They checked a number of other properties on my street and they all show UFO being available. Annoying that I'll be without internet while it's sorted, but...

@ukpab I'm not sure what you expect Sky to do if they have pulled out of thre UFO, they just cannot provide a service after that date, they have given a months notice so that you can make alternative arrangements.  Working for home does not give your Domestic broadband service any priority.

As per @cookiemonsteruk if you check the link provided you may have FTTC available, you can choose any provider you want, please be aware you may need  a new line installing.

Like you I'm a customer here, Sky Employees are clearly identified as such.

I don't know why Sky are stopping the service

Because it was a trial project investigating the viability of ISPs laying their own optical networks, particularly in urban areas, and has been completely overtaken by the state-backed national rollout of wholesale fibre by Openreach.

if you use 'UFO' as a search term in the box at the top of the forum, you'll find various posts on the topic.
