The Hundred UHD

Has the heat got to the equipment or has someone forgot to pull the switch for the UHD stream?

Re: The Hundred UHD

Not a great start with all these technical issues, bottom right of screen was also on some zoom then.

Thanks,

At least it is one of the 100 worst ideas for cricket. I managed to watch 10 minutes before giving up! What a complete waste of time for mankind.

Re: The Hundred UHD

Really not sure who thought the graphics were a good idea.

The atmosphere is a bit dry, better than BBC coverage though. As usual for a womens game the empty seats, for the first game they really should given free tickets out to show a full (or covid full) attendance and put some effort into trying to make it work.

Still on the fence, just what was so wrong with T 20 that couldn't have been tweaked to attract the younger viewers that this is supposed to attract.

Re: The Hundred UHD

@Tim+Adams 95% of cricket fans are not interested in the Hundred, but that doesn't matter because the ECB are looking to attract a new audience - particularly women and children.

some cricket fans may disagree, but there is nothing wrong with T20 - it is just the ECB wanted a unique selling point.

Re: The Hundred UHD

I struggled with the gaudy looking graphics.  Maybe it appeals to younger audiences but I found it unpleasant to look at.

Re: The Hundred UHD

Two main issues with the graphics

1: If I wanted to watch in 4:3 aspect ratio, I would have remained in the 80s

2: I decided not to bother giving The Hundred a chance, as those massive static graphics look like a burn-in risk for OLED

I love my cricket; tests, championship days, one day and T20, but really do not see the point of this format
Why not just play out a T20 instead. That tournament works.
Having watched T20 on TV and live, plenty of families go to the T20 matches, so not really understanding why they say this was invented to appeal to the younger audience as an attraction.

I had a quick look yesterday on Sky and gave up after ten minutes.
The graphics were gaudy and took up too much screen space.
Was going to watch the Mens game today, but will not bother.
Hope this goes in the bin.

Have to say it ' it's just not cricket'.

Re: The Hundred UHD

The Hundred is not for the cricket purist. If you're a cricket purist then move along, there's nothing for you here.

If there were enough women and children going to the cricket, as some attest is the case, they wouldn't have felt the need to introduce this.

Re: The Hundred UHD

@lettice I agree.  Watching tonights game, having seen yesterdays, just to check and feel the same for many of the reasons you post.

I don't watch cricket but thought I'd pop by to have a look

Maybe the graphics are set by people more used to other media, or just trying to be different as these immediately make want to change channel and I definitely could not bear watching for any length of time

I am not a 'gamer'  -  are these graphics coming from that world ?

They remind me of the new 'toys' that came into the TV world in the late 70s & early 80s when Directors/Producers would try them out (Top Of the Pops being notable for such) until they calmed down/ realised they just detracted from the what they were trying to show & then used them sparingly    and as appropraite (mainly)

Re: The Hundred UHD

I kind of understand why they've done the graphics. The run bar gets built up in the first innings then goes down in the 2nd innings with the run chase. Same with the "balls" bar on the right.

It's all to make it easier for people not used to cricket scoring to easily see, right they need 83 runs and they have 50 balls left. I do think the design could be better, more compact and OLED friendly, smaller bars running along the bottom or something.

My only issue is, if this is meant to be the gateway into getting people interested in all cricket, then they will be lost when watching even a 50-over game, or the T20 World Cup coming up.
