@InFlux Netflix does support Dolby atmos on Glass, this is confirmed when paying Dolby vision and atmos. Press the button with 3 dots and bottom right will say Dolby vision and Dolby Atmos.

I appreciate I'll never match the performance of my home cinema but I still can't help feeling its nowhere near sky's claims of sonic boom.

@InFlux Sky Marketing people have been quite brilliant in make Glass sound far better than some of the reality so far.

Now I'm really no expert on Dolby Atmos or the way in which the speakers have been set up in Glass, but this article from Dolby might shed some light and explain why the speaker test results might not be all they seem.

I think my speakers are working correctly, but it is quite difficult to work out from the tests on YouTube, I wonder whether some of the confusion might be down to the way the speakers have been configured making it more challenging to accurately test. As I say I'm really no expert so happy to be proved wrong.

@Duncanh454  Yes this suggests that the bass kicks from the sub on the LFE channel with the use of other speakers to provide the immersive virtual sound.

It seems impossible to simply test just the bass (sub) on its own accurately.

@Jayboy1990 yes, it's going to be dependent on the way in which the original soundtrack has been mixed, some might make more or less use of the lfe, I'm going to try some different films on 4K Blu Ray this weekend and see how they sound.

Re: Speaker tests on you tube - anyone else getting no bass sounds?

I guess it's entirely possible my expectations are indeed too high. Slightly off topic I'm just a bit underwhelmed with the whole experience plus my wife is nagging as she preferred Sky Q. She typically likes to watch programs which are only available through the likes of ITV hub and 4OD and the experience using these services is quite simply dreadful.

Lets hope Sky Glass as a package will improve over time as frankly I'm fighting the urge to just ditch it and return to Sky Q. If it wern't for the fact I've given our TV to my son I think I would be sending it back!

Re: Speaker tests on you tube - anyone else getting no bass sounds?

Having a play around today and I can see no discernible difference on the two tests linked so far either before or after resetting or by using the YouTube app on a Firestick 4K, still no sound on the LFE channel test on one and very muffled on the second.

However, I am of the opinion this is an issue regarding the tests themselves or managing expectations as people have mentioned.

If you just want to test the overall sound quality of your Glass Tv try running this test on you tube, Dolby Atmos Trailer_Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound  by Hashtag Today.  https://youtu.be/kJ11HvUXJvU

It really gives a good idea of the TV's capability giving the bass and surround sound a good work out.

Based on this I am reasonably satisfied with how the TV sounds, still not as good as the devialet sky soundbox in my opinion and certainly not in the same league as a dedicated atmos surround sound system but more than adequate as a one box solution.

As with the picture it does seem to vary enormously by the sound format used and the actual content, hopefully this can be mitigated further by future software updates from Sky.

If the resets worked the to me it sounds like a software issue not a speaker fault, and for the amount of them having the same problem.

I have a 55" and have the same issue so I will call them. Hopefully get a agent familiar with the issue.

Re: Speaker tests on you tube - anyone else getting no bass sounds?

@Bartopia I agree, the sound for me is generally good, I agree about the muffled response on the LFE, however as a package the sound is good, but as you say not up to the same standard as a good soundbar/system.

I'm not convinced it is a physical issue with the speakers, software seems to be the key with so many of the problems we're having.

Yes few teething problems, sky Q was full of them at the start and still is with the mini boxes and Wi-Fi isssue

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

Youtube uses PCM 2.0 i.e.2 channels on all devices, which can be just stereo or a downmix of a 5.1 soundtrack.  The demo stuff for multi-channel and Atmos is pointless because the best you can get is a Dolby Surround upmix from a 2 channel downmix and there is no Atmos metadata to make it real Atmos.

The .1 channel is the LFE which holds the Low Frequency part of the soundtrack which is set at 120Hz and below.  There is also a crossover frequency which on full AV systems is set to the roll off frequency of the main speakers which is usually set through a calibration process and is usually set at 80Hz up to 150 Hz.

The quality of any upmix process into multi channels is based on the quality of the downmix process used.  Based on the principle of garbage in garbage out.  The best way to test the sound and bass is to attach a dvd player, preferably a UHD one which should pass uncompressed Atmos via Dolby True HD and play something like The Dark Knight or Blade Runner 2049.

Re: Speaker tests on you tube - anyone else getting no bass sounds?

@trevforum that's exactly what I did today, used Blade Runner 2049 Blu Ray in 4K, I was pleased with the sound.

I'm realistic about what's achievable from the speakers on Glass, it's not going to match a dedicated, quality home cinema system, but as an all in one solution I think it's very good.

Re: Speaker tests on you tube - anyone else getting no bass sounds?

Can anyone confirm to me please, when they use Extra Bass, or Night mode, can they hear any significant difference to watching normally?

On my old Sony sound bar it was obvious, on Glass there is no noticeable difference what so ever, which makes me think it's a faulty unit. Hopefully with a new unit coming Tuesday there will be a difference.

Re: Speaker tests on you tube - anyone else getting no bass sounds?

I used this to try the bass speaker, which goes through the different frequencies. There doesn't seem to be a problem with the actual speaker.
