Slower wifi with Sky Q Mini box

Hi all,

Not sure if anyone knows whether I am doing anything wrong, but here is scenario I am facing with my configuration.

I have my main Sky Q box and Sky Hub on the ground floor.  The first Sky Q Mini box in the kitchen, connected via wifi.  The second Sky Q Mini box is in the office room upstairs (directly above the kitchen, where the first mini box is located)

Upstairs, I am seeing around 25Mbps (checked through the  2nd Mini Q box, via the netflix App) - however, my Laptop and Ipad is seeing around 8Mbps (its in the same room as 2nd Mini Q box) - I was hoping to see closer to 25Mbps as I thought the Mini Q box were acting as a mesh system.

However, If I power-off the 2nd Mini Q box upstairs, the Laptop and Ipad is registering around 20Mbps in the same location, much faster without the 2nd Mini Q box  - so, for some reason, the  Mini Q box is throttling the wifi speed.

I cant hard wire any of the mini boxes due to the layout of the house - is there a way improve the wifi signal?

Thanks

@Sleven71

Thats the nature of mesh networks, The mini has to reserve itself bandwidth as well as it slowing other devices down due to the amount of mesh hops its taking. When you switch the mini off your devices revert to the routers signal which provides faster speed but a lower signal strength.

The only option would be to switch the mesh system off on your mini boxes but this would involve hardwiring them

Re: Slower wifi with Sky Q Mini box

thank @jamesn123

That makes sense - but Sky weren’t convinced, they assumed a drop of, say 10%, when boxes are plugged in, so will be sending s "broadband expert" to review the setup next week.

In the meantime, I’ve removed the second mini box from the equation (using an Android box to get Netflix/Prime now) and I am seeing a whopping 25Mbps on the above mentioned devices - that’s up from 6-8Mbps when the box was in.
